I use the chewable Celebrate Bariatric Supplements for Calcium. A serving size is 4 tabs, I take 2 at noon and 2 at suppler (I take iron at breakfast time). They have Calcium (as calcium citrate) and the cholecalciferol Vitamin D, 200 IU per tab.

I only bring it up as most of the brands of calcium citrate now include vitamin D. The last time I went to purchase vitamins (local CVS) I actually found myself having to search for calcium citrate that did not have vitamin D. I think that this germane to the discussion, but it's your thread.

Vitamin toxicity is too important to bury in a thread about deciphering calcium labels.
Again, I think you should start a new thread about this.

Why is this all so confusing?!?! Argh!!! It is very confusing, but very good to know. I am less than 2 weeks away from surgery and trying to make a daily 'what I need' just so that my MIL and husband as well as I will know what I need to be taking in.
I knew about the Vitamin D aiding in the absorption of Calcium Citrate. And thank you Corrine for all of that info. Thank the Lord I am already taking the correct one. It actually says Calcium (elemental) right on the serving sugg., so good. But, like others, I've only been taking one serving of two tablets where I should be taking 2 servings.
The other thing that was not mentioned on here that I thought is pretty important is that you should not be taking your calcium at the same time as your multivitamin. The iron blocks the absorption of calcuim. Maybe this is common knowledge to everyone, but hopefully this info might help someone. It's a lot to deal with. I am definitely taking another look at all my vitamins and making sure I'm gonna get what I need after surgery, just glad I'm doing it now.

I ordered all of my vitamins from BariatricAdvantage.com. They're not cheap, but I know they are good quality, they are chewable and come in a lot of different flavors. Until I am way post-op and can swallow pills, these will have to do for me. I've got their wild cherry calcium and they're not bad at all!

Carrie - the better option is to take multivitamins without iron in them. And I can see that you take Bariatric Advantage - they don't contain iron so you're safe to take your calcium citrate at one and the same time. Iron supplements should be teken seperately (with vitamin C).
To everyone else, these are bariatric multivitamins without iron:
Celebrate vitamins: Bariatric Vitamins | Gastric Bypass Vitamins | Celebrate Bariatric Vitamins
Bariatric Advantage: http://www.bariatricadvantage.com/ca...Multi-Vitamins

Tara,
Bariatric Advantage are bringing out a calcium chew. That would be my ultimately calcium of choice. Check this out: Bariatric Advantage Chocolate Calcium Citrate Chewy Bites
Other than that. Celebrate Vitamins have two really good chewables. My choice is the Strawberries and Cream but the Cocoa one isn't bad.
I also have Bariatric Advantages calcium citrate chewables in Chocolate and Cherry. They are a little gritty compared to Celebrate's but it's nothing much.
If you want to PM me your mailing information, I'll get a couple of each in the mail for you to try.
Personally, I found the Twinlabs wafers too tart.

Helena - Citracal are always a good buy but they are pretty big things early out.
You can drop a couple in a bottle of crystal light or whatever and they will dissolve but not completely.
Early out, you might find it better to go for a chewable as mentioned above. It's virtually impossible to find chewable calcium citrate in local stores.
