Thanks! I know this was a project. Even though the Bldg Blocks are a little more money I think I will stick to them. I used to spend a heck of a lot more money on junk food and beer.

I just got my BB vitamins today. I had a hard time getting them down this morning but I think it was because I psyched myself out so much before I tried them. I am going to buy a couple of the weekly pill things so I can keep better track of what I have to take and when....

I think it's great to see so many taking an active interest in things like this. We really do have to be our own advocate and bottom line, regardless of what multivitamin you take - get your bloodwork tested regularly.

We're never going to agree on exactly what is THE best multivitamin for a bariatric patient and the fact is, it's doubtful that one exists that will meet the needs of absolutely everyone throughout the course of their life.

We're individuals and as such, our nutritional and supplemental needs are going to vary. And not just from one person to another. As we age, our requirements for levels of some supplements will alter too. And that leads us right back to necessity of having regular bloodworks done.

Centrum chewables are what my hospital recommends and the dose is 2 a day. I have WLS friends who's doc/NUT recommended the same dose. But then I also have WLS friends who were told to take a couple of kiddies gummy bears a day too!

1 Centrum a day is the recommended amount for a person with a normal stomach arrangement. Factor in the malabsorption thing and it seems to make more sense to increase the dose for gastric bypass people.

In this report dated March 2008 http://download.journals.elsevierhea...8908001639.pdf - page 7:

"Multivitamin-mineral supplement: A high-potency vitamin containing 100% of the daily value for at least 2/3 of nutrients" ....... And the recommended dose for RYGB, BPDS/DS is 200% of daily value (which is 2 pills).

Pages 7 is the start of multivitamins and supplements but this really is a must read for everyone.
Thanks. I see the doc tomorrow and will discuss with him.

Ditto!!!!!! When I see my NUT I'm going to show her this chart and ask her. I'm also going to tell her about the New Why bullets. What bothers me is that if she is a bariatric NUT why doesn't she know this stuff? I know that NUTs don't have an extensive course of study such as dietitians, but they should constantly be researching new findings. I've already paid for 3 visits and have two left, but I may considering seeing someone else.

My NUT is a dietitian and she is VERY up on this stuff. This is all she does really. The clinic I went through does both medical and surgical weight loss and thats it. It's really nice to know that that is kind of what everyone "specializes" in. The dietitian that I see is really great too. She does a LOT of research and took a LOT of time looking at all the different vitamins out on the market and different suppliments to find one that was the most cost effective as well as the best for us.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!

I asked the surgeon today about the Centrum chewables. He said to take 2 of them a day! Wait till I get my hands on that NUT. I read and re-read the packet she gave me and it says NOTHING about 2. She seriously needs to do some more research and speak with the surgeons that support her.

I'm really sorry you were given inaccurate information sweetheart but I'm afraid I'm no longer surprised when I hear stories like this. But the upside is that you're not far out from surgery so you're not likely to have come to harm.

In honesty, I rely heavily on the information I get off this and other WLS forums and have no hesitation in talking with my doc/NUT about it.

Dear Nicole...me thinks your NUT had better go back to school for a refresher course! What a bummer when the "professionals" don't even get it right. Not good to play around with someone's health like that.

I do think a protest would be in order.
