Default Building Blocks wins again...

I ordered mine...I'm going to give my Flintstones to my DH. He likes them.

I'm still lamenting that my NUT has been replaced by a fella who has absolutely NO idea about Bariatrics. Do you think I should ask my doc for the name of a different NUT? I'm just at the beginning here...and hate to have both of us caught unawares.

Oh! I went right out to get my copy of WLS for Dummies. It IS good and comforting to have on hand. Maybe I should let the new NUT borrow it!

I'm sold too. My bb vitamins will be here Monday. I can't stand the taste of the Flintstones and my calcium wafers leave a nasty aftertaste so I haven't been taking my vitamins and supplements like I should be. I'm hoping I'll be able to get them in better once I get the BB's.

Now, usually NUTs tell us to take our vitamins and calcium separately, but I notice with BBs you take them together. Is that what y'all are doing? I assume since they're made specifically for us, they know what they are doing and it's okay for us to take them together....

Karen, I suspect the reason some nutritionist suggest taking them seperately is because a lot of the multi-vitamins out there have iron in them. If you take calcium and iron together you won't absorb either one effectively. With the BB vitamins they didn't put any iron in their multi-vitamin, so it is ok to take the calcium with the multi-vitamin and then take the additional iron at lunch.

I have a scheduled for vitamins (brand notwithstanding):

I don't know how many other NUTs are this picky

I also take Building Blocks, in the same way as the chart. I like the vitamin and the calcium taste, sort of like Sweet Tarts. I have not tried the BB chewable iron, but I have tried an OTC chewable brand that was horrid... I told my NUT I purchased the pill iron from BB because I heard that many chewables can stain teeth (I paid $500 last year to take years of coffee stains out and I don't want them iron stained)... she said that the iron pills are small and should be OK for me.

Your absorber can only absorb so much of what you eat and take in as supplements. Your absorber will absorb the most of whatever has the highest charge. This is for WLS patients and non WLS patients. Iron and Calcium both have a very high charge and fight to be absorbed which is why you shouldn't take them together. It's also why you don't eat fish and spinach together. You won't absorb the Omega 3 because the Iron in the spinach is too dominant.

Good to know how and why it works in opposition.

(I never knew that about fish and spinach )

Well my fellow bariatric peoples...Here is what I take and it is working for me so far. At least my nut (she vehemently opposes this shortened form of her working title) hasn't cussed me out or given me the evil eye yet for consuming these.

Bariatric Advantage Complete Chewable Multi-Formula with B-Complex and Essential Minerals...Orange Citrus flavor...very yummy and I take 2 a day.

Bariatric Advantage Passion Fruit Flavored Chewable Iron...29 mg...
1 a day and very good also.

Bariatric Advantage Sublingual B-12...1 a day

Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate Wild Cherry Flavor Lozenges...2 a day and be warned...these have a whole lot of Pucker Power!!!

I have labs done the middle of next month so we'll see if using Bariatric Advantage is REALLY to my ADVANTAGE!

Have I told everyone here lately that I love you all? Yeah. I do.
