Default Help! Heartburn?

Good morning, everyone... I woke up at 5:30 am (it is 6:30 am now) with a lump in my throat and what I think is severe heartburn. I took tums and they were no help. I've got burning from my rib cage up. It almost feels like I need to vomit, but I can't seem to do so. Every time the lump works its way up into my throat, I swallow it back down and that causes a lot of pain/burning. Has anyone else had this? I don't know what to do...

I searched for heartburn on the forum but didn't really see any threads that sounded like what I am experiencing. Can someone help?

Sweetie, you need to get on the phone with Dr Callery's office today. Let them know how you are feeling. Does he have you on anything like Prilosec, Prevacid or some other kind of protectant? People can get ulcers after weight loss surgery. Especially early out you are prone to them so you really need to let your doctor know. Burning and nausea are often some of the initial symptoms. Leave it up to him to decide if there is reason for concern or not.

Default thanks

Thank you, Beth! I am definitely calling the doc this morning... I just wondered if I was alone in experiencing this. I take prescription strength Zantac twice a day per Kelly/Dr. Callery.

I haven't had this happen at all until this morning, so I wasn't sure what to think. It's so weird - one day you feel like a "normal" person (pre GBS) and the next you feel like a patient again!

I'm glad you are going to be calling Dr Callery's office. I never experienced what you described so I really have no idea. Basically people aren't supposed to experience things like gastric reflux after having RNY surgery but I have heard of complaints from people who say that there gastric reflux eventually comes back.

One of these days I hope to pin a bariatric doctor down enough to make him explain to me how that can happen since we no longer have gastric juices in our pouch. Thankfully my surgeon's office is pretty accommodating when it comes to my endless questions. *L* I have their email close by and his nurse is getting to know me well.

It is hard to feel so good one day and then do a 180 and feel like a patient again. Coming from the health profession myself I've come to realize that is very much the nature of the beast of medicine. Things can always change quickly.

Hope you get some answers and that you are feeling better. Keep taking such good care of yourself. You're worth it!
