Default Pregnancy

I had my surgery 8-24-04 and so I'm creeping up on a year. Hubby and I are starting to think about having another child soon. Actually we're planning to start trying in January. Has anyone discussed post op pregnancy with your dr.'s? Has anyone BEEN pregnant after? THe last time I talked about it with my doc was before surgery and we didn't go into a lot of detail. I just wanted to be sure I could have more children. One of her nurses who had also had the surgery was pregnant at the time so I'm sure they'll have LOTS of advice for me, but I was curiouse to hear from you guys.

I have the fat fear. Do you think it could push my body into getting fat again? I was 165 when I got pregnant with my son. I was 220 when I had him and of course (my fault) kept gaining. I got fat b/c I ate to much, BUT I know that women's bodies do store more during pregnancy so....?

I don't know about being pregnant anymore. My factory is closed. I know that they say to wait at least a year and be stable with your weight. I, too would be afraid of gaining. I gained so much with my kids. I had 3 of them and gained more weight with each of them....and kept it. I think it is much different after wls though. I hope someone here can give you some good advice.

The nurse at my docs has two beautiful kids and did it after wls. She still looks great! I think I would do a lot of research before hand so i knew what I was getting into. Carnie Wilson is due this month and I just read an interview with her and she has gained 40lbs. (People magazine)

Thumbs up Mary Clipper

You should private-message Mary Clipper, one of our long term post-ops and the mother of a new baby boy born around the 1st of April this year. She can give you some great advice. I have to say that Mary looked awesome during her pregnancy. In fact, I think there's a photo of Mary taken at about seven months somewhere on the forum...maybe in member photos.

I haven't seen her post-pregnancy, but I think the delivery was fine. Good luck with your plans!

Mary had a wonderful pregnancy from what I understand. She gained very little weight and had a healthy baby boy. She is still on maternity leave so if you message her she won't be able to answer right away because she doesn't have internet access at home.

Give me a email, and I will answer any questions I can. I had a pretty easy pregnancy at about 20 months post op. It can be done and done well.

Default Post Op Pregnancy Advice

I too became pregnant after WLS. (Shortly after surgery.) Fortunately, I'd lost 80 pounds by the time I got pregnant and lost another 20 during the pregnancy. I gained a total of 15 pounds in the 3rd trimester and delivered a healthy baby girl on 6/19/04. I had no complications, natural delivery, good lab results, etc. My OBGYN was outstanding. It's important to choose a doctor whose familiar with WLS patients. I had no morning sickness. I was in labor for 3 hours. It was truly an amazing experience. E-mail me privately if you'd like to chat more. I can go on for days about my gift from God! (We waited many years for her!)
