Smile I'm finally home...

After a month of traveling which included my surgery on June 7th. I had a great time in NY for my daughters' graduation from med school and in CT seeing my 5month old grandson, and in Reno where my daughter moved for her internship followed by surgery in San Diego. The weather was great for us Alaskans (June gloom didn't bother us). Not used to the traffic but we learned where we needed to get.

Anyway, surgery went great, the usual post-op stuff, pain on the left side mostly but controlled with the morphine...stayed in two nights and then back to the hotel. Did well started walking (the beach, Balboa Park). It was so nice having nice weather to recup in. Left for home when I was 1 week post op. Since coming home have progressed from clear liquids to soft protien foods. I haven't been to adverturous yet. Mostly refried beans, cottage cheese, egg, split pea soup and yogurt. But thats fine..oh and of course my water and vits and protien(which I can't say I love but am gritting my teeth and getting it down!)

What I am trying to start focusing on is to change my morbidly obese (or person of size my physician says) mentality to one of normal weight. I am not sure where all that will take me but it may be something like what Beth was saying about peeling back the layers and discovering who's there.

The adventure begins and I have goals I want to reach for.

Welcome home Cheryl and to the Loser's Bench!

Sounds like you're getting through "Hell Week" pretty well... YAY! Curious, what does your doctor-daughter think of you getting the surgery? Supportive, I hope!!!

Relax and get ready to get skinny!

She is very supportive of my decision to do the surgery. She worked with a couple bariatric docs is Albany. She said I was a good candidate for it.
I would have done with or without her support but it's nice ti have it.

Welcome home Cheryl. It's great that you had the energy to do all of that traveling right after surgery...I'm still getting tired very easily.

You went to San Diego to have your surgery?

Yah a bit of traveling but all went well. I was pretty tired Sat after getting home at 4am(3 hour drive after landing in Anchorage). After a good night sleep I was fine.

Dr. Wittgrove comes to Ak 3-4 times a year and I went to one of his seminars. I was very impressed with what he had to say and there were people there from this area who had gone there and had nothing but good to say and hey it was like a little extra summer tacked on. We need all the summer we can get. Light we have in abundance this time of year but not always sunshine!

Congrats to you Cheryl! That is so great that you got in all your visiting and now can rest happily and plan your new life. My date is July 2nd. I only have to go down the road 10 miles. I can't imagine traveling as far as you did. You folks in Alaska really are troopers!

I have a brother in law & his family in Anchorage. We have been hoping to visit for years! May have the energy after losing my additional self.

Thanks Brooke,
The worst part about being so far away was the usual discomfort of flying on an airplane, but I'm working on that.

If you ever get the chance to come up here you should it is very beautiful.

I see your date is coming up quickly, best wishes for a quick recovery. I did a lot of walking before surgery and I think it helped for a quicker recovery.
