Default Probably dumb question but have to ask...

Does anyone know if surgeons create different size pouches depending on the person?
For example: if the person has a higher BMI would the surgeon create a smaller pouch than someone with a lower BMI?

Here's what I know ...

My surgeon creates the pouch size based on healthy tissue. If the tissue is less than ideal, then the pouch ends up bigger. It's more difficult to make a nice clean round cut to form the pouch.
She told me they put a 20 cc balloon inside, and cut around it.
Fortunately my tissue was very healthy, which allowed her to make the smallest pouch they can make ... 20 cc (2/3 ounce).

I hope this helps, it's how she explained it to me.

I have learned that there are different malabsorption rates depending on what length of "limb" your doc leaves.. there's more than one kind of RNY. Basically the amount of malabsorption is dependant on the length of your 'alimentary limb'.

There's the Proximal, the Medial, the Distal and the Duodenal (which is really the DS surgery).

Each one has a different malabsorption rate. 130cm is the Medial RNY with a moderate level of malabsorption. ~30% malabsorption.

I don't know if each doc does all kinds of limbs or has a fav or tailors it to the body type/BMI/what?... It'a a question I am going to ask the guy I am waiting for my initial consult with!
