I'm 17 weeks post-op and feel absolutely wonderful! I required no pain medication after surgery. I was in my room by 11pm that night and awake by4:30am the next morning walking around. I have not been sick nor experienced any dumping. The worst that has happened to me was a little spit up about a week and a half ago due to lots of sinus drainage. I've lost 75 pounds and once again have the energy to do the things I used to enjoy. I'm 65 pounds from my goal and feel confident I can reach it.
Originally I was scheduled for lap-band but when I saw my PCP prior to surgery she told me that considering the amount of weight I needed to lose I needed to have gastric bypass. I went back to the office, called my surgeon and re-scheduled. I am so glad I did. Over the past thirty plus years I have found in order to lose weight I basically had to quit eating. That may be why I am very comfortable with the diet. I have yet to be hungry and since I can't eat more than 3-4 ounces at a time I choose to make very good food choices in terms of protein. At the age of 54 I hated the fact that I had trouble getting up off of the sofa, that I couldn't bend over, I had trouble taking care of basic personal hygiene. I have tried to talk to my sister about the surgery (she's about 4'10" and over 300lbs) but she tells me her doctor says she "maintains" her weight very well. She cannot go up stairs, has sleep apnea, difficulty breathing, and cannot walk very far.
I would have the surgery again in a minute!
