No Problems after WLS?
I would like to know if there is anyone on this board who has NOT had any problems. I am scheduled to have Lap RNY next week and the more I read, the more I am second guessing my decission. It seems that everything I read, there is some kind of problem and I cannot tell if it is because the person did not do everything as directed and had troubles, or an inexperienced doctor or....
Thanks for sharing!
CC
P.S. I am posting this on a few different boards so if you see it twice, you are not seeing things....Thanks!

I had absolutely no problems. I had surgery on a Tuesday. Came home on Friday and was already walking around the block 4-6 times a day when I got home. In a week that worked up to 15 minute walks twice a day and now I do 1/2 hr most every night. I went back to work after 3 weeks with no problems. Could have gone back after 2 (desk job) but probably would have been somewhat tired. I was glad I took the 3 weeks. I have not dumped once. I have not had any stomach aches except for when I got constipated but that was easy to fix. I did have one time where I ate too fast and didn't chew well and was uncomfortable for about 30 minutes but that's about it. I'm such a chicken about getting sick that I am VERY careful. I am sooooo happy I did this! I have lost 46 lbs in 10 1/2 weeks!

I haven't had any problems post-op, but I sure did have a lot of them pre-op. And all my pre-op problems no longer exist. One happy customer here.

There are lots of people out there and here who have had a lot of success and little complications with the surgery. I haven't had any. I had surgery in March. It's absolutely ridiculous!!...seriously. I feel great. I'm down 50 lbs...(which alone makes the surgery worth it). I haven't had any complications. I trudge along. I take my supplements and I exercise. For the most part, I eat what I want.
You should go to a support group in your area and talk to people. Sometimes, on the forum, people only report hardships and challenges, so they can get feedback and hear if others are going through the same...but that doesn't mean it's all bad. This is a tool, same as the surgery. I never saw or knew of this forum before my surgery. I discovered this wonderful place after the fact and I love to read the posts and sometimes I voice myself.
I based my decision to have surgery because I simply could not let my body and soul continue to die...because I was killing myself. I was willing to take the risks and the challenges on. They seemed so much better then continuing on the way I was. I truly believe that the combination of an excellent support base (doctor, nutritionist, etc.) and a positive attitude will get you through everything.
Good luck to you.

I think it's normal to second guess ourselves at many junctures along the path.. especially this path... I like your question, and I like even more reading the responses... Indeed, here (as at support group meetings) it is important to remember that these are places for people to get answers to challenges (op-related and other).. and for them to brag, but there are periods when there only seem to be problems...
It's great to remember that MANY MANY MANY folks do pretty darned well all the way through.. sometimes out of fear... sometimes out of paying attention and following the rules.. and sometimes out of luck...
Thanks for asking the question.. and thanks to those who are responding... As my dad pointed out: the ones without challenges are not at the support meetings, nor perhaps logging on as frequently..
good luck in your op.

I had post op pancreatitis, but they dont know why it happened and I was the first case out of 2200 that my surgeon experienced it happening to. They didnt know if it was a weird thing with anesthesia, but since then I have had more surgeries without probs, or if gall stines passed into the pancrease after my bypass. So other than that I have been one happy camper.. if only I could get analgesics to absorb right!
Welcome!

i had a stricture at 3 weeks post op which put me in the hospital for 2 days. And my high hopes for loosing weight fast were shot to hell! I would say dont "expect" so much from the surgery like you have to do 80% of the work and the tool is 20% of the work i read that here and found that is really true. Sure some people are really lucky and loose 100 pounds by the time 6months comes, but really its a big fat let down for others when that doesnt happen you get your hopes up too high. So dont go into it expecting to loose all your weight within the first few months

Hi there,
Congrats on getting so close to your date !
I had surgery 11 weeks ago, lost 40lbs, and have been feeling great since.
Maybe the day I came home achy, but truely that's it.
Good luck to you.

I feel blessed - not sure if recovery is typical
I had lap RNY on Wed., 6/11 and was discharged on 6/12. I haven't had any complications. I feel very blessed to be having a smooth recovery. I haven't had any pain medications since day 6/12 either.
I was able to walk on the treadmill for 1/2 mile yesterday and able to go to my daughter's T-ball game and cheer her team to victory today.
I am still sore and one of my incisions has a bruise about 4 inches around it, but everything is doable. I hope that your surgery goes as smoothly as mine.

I had lap rny over three months ago, and I have had no problems. It was a great choice for me.
