I'm four months out from a laparoscopic Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy ("VSG" or "Sleeve") - no complications and no problems. I did have some gout flare-ups shortly after surgery, but I had gout problems before the surgery and have not had a flare-up since I was about a month post-op. I did the Sleeve self pay and have NO REGRETS!

No problems here
My surgeon was very happy because each time he came to check up on me while I was in the hospital, he couldn't find me because I was walking around. I just about danced out of the hospital and never had any trouble. I basically didn't have a hell week, though I had to be careful of course, I mean, it is major surgery.
Everyone is different.

I'm almost 2 1/2 years postop and was pretty much complication free until last week. My gallbladder went bad and I needed it removed. I would say that gallbladder was a pretty fair exchange for my 211 pounds, diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
I will not say this is an easy journey. It isn't. It takes alot of hard work and there were plenty of days where emotionally it was a struggle. I wasn't prepared for the emotional side of this journey. The head hunger, the anger of wanting to eat but the total lack of appetite, the mourning of food, the days when it just hurt to eat and the often strong desire to just pick up that plate of food and throw it against the wall. You need to be prepared for the fact that this isn't easy, it isn't a breeze. Emotionally and physically there are struggles but for me every struggle has been worth it and I wouldn't turn back the clock to Jan. 2006 for all the money in the world. I really wouldn't.
Second guessing yourself is normal. I would say it is pretty much expected but don't let that fear get in the way of the unbelievable change this surgery can have on your health and your life. Even if I did have complications I know without a doubt my quality of life has improved 10 fold and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

I have had no problems, except my head fell off one day last week. (I hate it when that happens) I picked it up real quick and put it back on. 5 second rule. (that was smart - I almost couldn't find it) All is well again. (Lucky!)

I'm 2 1/2 years out and I have absolutely no problems at all. My labs come back close to perfect, though I do need extra thiamin. At about 2 1/2 months out I had some problems with acid but it went away.

I had lap RNY. In the hospital I didn't pee enough for them so I got kept and extra day. I went in on Monday April 21 and home April 24. Guess what, every day since then has been better and better. The first 10 days was a mostly recuperating for me. After that I was out walking, shopping, driving, whatever. I went back to work after only 3 weeks. I was a little tired but once again no complications. I have followed my DR adivce to the T. I could not drink all the water recommended. I asked my DR about this on my 1 week follow up and he said "nobody ever does!"
However, this is MAJOR surgery so anything can happen but I am 8 weeks out and SO happy I did this. I would again - in a heartbeat.

I had a stricture at 3.5 months out, an easy repair as an outpatient. Have felt great all the way through, and so glad I made the decision I did. (If there were days when I felt crappy, I don't remember -- for me this was a blessing).
Having said this, it is YOUR decision, and the ONLY way you can be successful is if you totally embrace this for what it is - a tool that you will have forever as you totally change your lifestyle regarding eating. It isn't magic, it's a tool. And with any intrusive surgery such as this, there is a risk for some level of complications.
My suggestion is that you discuss this factor with your surgeon - he/she will give you a much clearer sense of what you can expect.
And the best of luck to you.
