I am 4 weeks post op and I feel better than I have in years. I have already lost 31 lbs. I am walking everyday for 1/2 hour. I take things slowly with foods and the surgeon feels I am doing fine. I had a slight infection at my incision sites but that was quickly resolved with an antibiotic. I am so glad I made the decision to have this done. I feel awesome!!!!!
I hope you have enough positive feedback that you will make your decision. Good Luck.

I am one year out. It has been challenging for a lot of reasons, but the pluses far outweigh (no pun intended) the issues.
My only issues have been severe anemia, ruptured stitches and an umbilical hernia. The ruptured stitches and hernia were my fault. I have only been pouch sick 4 times in the past year.
However, I have more energy now than I did in my 20's, my blood work (except for the anemia) is perfect, my high blood pressure is gone, my love life with DH has skyrocketed, and I feel FANTASTIC.
Also, now that they can see my insides better, they have found some other non-surgery related things that I am getting checked out. If it ends up that one of the problems is something serious, then we have hopefully caught it early enough to take care of. I call it my "spring cleaning phase".
DH is a gbs patient too and I know definitively that this surgery saved his life.
Good luck in your decision making.

Please don't give up on yourself after coming so far... It is so worth the great outcome at the end of the tunnel. I had my surgery on 5/29/08 and everything seems to be going great for me. I have felt guilty for seeming to do so well after reading so many bad experiences. We are all different and we really don't know what the outcome will be until after you have ventured to the loser's bench. My best advice I could give you is walk, walk, walk, and walk some more starting the evening after your surgery to take care of the gas pains.... It did take me 2 days with many walks in the hospital halls to finally pass gas, but it was so worth it. Don't cheat yourself of a better healthier life now. You are almost at the door to the loser's bench... Just think of this time as preperation. I didn't realize how many success stories there are on here until I read this post and it makes me feel better to know that I am not to only one... PLease write us to let us know how you are holding up. You are in my prayers and stay on the positive side.
Hugz,
Tina

no problems here
Hi, I am nearly 2 years out and I have not had any problems other than a bit of constipation now and then.
My life is amazingly easier since my surgery and I used to go to the doctor for one thing or another several times a year.
Other than my mandatory blood tests I have not been to the doctor since my surgery.
I don't even seem to get the colds my partner gets and it used to be the other way around!
I have also read that most people that have complications still say that they WOULD still do it all over again EVEN knowing about the complications.
I hope this helps you
Laurie

Almost 3 months post op and feeling great. Down 50lbs & off my high blood pressure meds. Had the normal discomfort after surgery which went away in 1 week. A couple times early on I would eat to fast or drink someting to cold and would have some discomfort but have never dumped. I would do it all over again. Good Luck.

I will be 6 weeks out from surgery on Monday and I count myself extremely blessed to have had no complications. (Except the behaviorally-induced kind like pain from eating too fast, too much, the wrong food, etc.) I was completely off pain meds, including tylonol, less than a week after surgery. As long as you follow the doc's directions, you will be fine. Just make sure you doc has a good record in the OR. Good luck! You'll do great!

I had no complications. I had lap RNY on Wednesday morning and was home by Friday evening. Recovering at home went well too. I'm sure that there are plenty of people who had no complications, they just haven't shared it with the group. I'm out 10 1/2 weeks and have lost 50 pounds so far.

I had my surgery 13 weeks ago weighing in at 234
I can happily say I weigh now 179
I came home the very next day and yes there is some discomfort and early depression for most me included but I have absolutly no regrets.
My blood sugar is normal my blood pressure is great and I look pretty darn good.
Just remember to do what they tell you and drink drink drink!!!!
Good luck
Kathy
