Default Bowel obstruction after open and laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery

Not to concern anyone out there, but after reading about Donna & others who've had a bowel bstruction, I went looking online & found this:
Bowel obstruction after open and laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery for morbid obesity

That's crazy but very interesting!
Obviously one surgeon didn't perform 1300+ operations in only 2 years, so they should have broken this down more if they wanted to attribute bowel obstructions to LAP instead of OPEN but it is a very interesting read. If those 68 patients all came from the same surgeon mostly, then I'd say they've messed up their cause and effect.

I was told from the get go its a complication risk FOREVER. I know a guy who had one 3 years out, never ignore THOSE symptoms, ever.

Right Ms. Bridge...
I trolled the internet for ca. 3 hours looking up infor concerning GBP & bowel obstruction. It does seem most of the journal papers written out thee do express a concern for this possibly occuring years & years post-op.

Ms. Josephine...
I didn't get the sense that all surgeries were performed by one doctor, but that they were all done at the same major bariatric hospital. I do find it a serious concern, however, that all the bowel obstructions were done in paitents that were LAP RNY.

Maybe we can get John/Dr. Callery to come with a response of some sort?

Its a risk for all gastric bypass patients no matter where you are. It happens because of scar tissue forming along the bowel where we had our RNY procedure done on the bowel. There is no way to predict or to know who is at risk for it specifically, but ALL RNY GBP kids are at risk for their lifetime. there is no timeline for not ever being at risk.
