Lol Van....I read your post quickly, and mis-read it. At first I thought you wrote: "I actually licked on the picture." OMG, now I have this mental image of you sitting there, licking a picture of a Big Mac on your computer screen!

Speaking of licking....my son was eating cheese flavored Pringles last night, and I got an intense craving for them. Yep, you guessed it....I took one and licked all of the salt and cheese flavoring off it. How pathetic!

And, that was less then a month ago. I did the 10 day liquid diet before surgery and for 9 days afterwards. I had my gastric bypass on 28 May. The last few days I have added some solid food into my diet (like pork, crab, eggs) and I have felt great. My energy level is up and all the food has agreed with me. I have made sure to chew properly, eat a small amount, and not drink for 30-60 minutes afterward. Funny thing is it seems the solids are easier for me then the liquids (my stomach cramps easily if I drink water to fast or to big of a swallow).

The only problem is that I am supposed to be on a liquid diet for 3 weeks. I have been waiting to hear back from my surgeon if this is ok. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced being able to tolerate foods early on. I wonder if this is bad? But, the truth is I feel I am having less calories and more protein by eating solids as opposed to eating soups and yogarts. I am still drinking a protein drink daily.
Yum, I don't even know what a schnizel is, and that sounds good!

I'd take your surgeon's advice on when to advance your diet. I was permitted "mushies" after my 1 week appointment though. I tried some red meat on day 8 or 9, and it got stuck...no more of that for awhile! Right now, I'm sticking to soft proteins like low-fat ricotta cheese, fat free cottage cheese, fat free refried beans, etc. I'm also able to eat about 2 ounces of tilapia (fish) without a problem, and I had a scrambled egg with cheese this morning, and that went down well.

Van, you are very welcome for lunch! Anytime.

Sherry, I couldn't bring myself to walk into a movie theater for 6 weeks after surgery. Just because of the damn popcorn taunting me!
It doesn't bother me anymore, but the first time I went I was shaking like a junkie looking for crack!

One of my early confessions here was how I was so desperate for a flavor in my mouth of something other than chocolate protein drinks and crystal light so I found an old, stale crouton and licked it clean of all the garlic flavor.. so I was similarly pathetic.. it happens, don't beat yourself up over it too much.

I am happy to report that I am having a better food day. Not thinking quite as much about it. I was watching The Real Housewives of New York one day and Julie I think they had a sugarless or reduced sugar Margarita on it one time. Two of them were having lunch and they ordered it and explained it was for less calories. If I remember I will forward it on. I need to be honest though, I can see how people can be alcoholic after this. If you have a hard time enjoying food, alcohol is easy to swallow. You guys all be careful please. I have 6 kids so I could never be an alcoholic. A hangover with 6 kids is like instant rehab for me.

Van, is your hubby still active duty right now?

Anybody else obsess about missing it all.
I miss pop. I would love to have a diet cherry pepsi! What part of western pa or ohio are you from, Michelle? Not many people use the word pop.

Sherry,

In Pittsburgh you can find schnitzel on the North Side of the city in the old German neighborhoods. They have some at the Penn Brewery. The best is Max's Allegheny Tavern in the central north side. Max's Allegheny has been there for over a hundred years. It's awesome. I prefer Max's. If you have a coupon book they are much more reasonable.

That is so funny about the "pop" comment. I actually live in Fargo North Dakota. Born and raised. We have family in Texas and they all call it soda.
