Default Intense itching! Can I put something on my 10 day old incisions?

My incisions have been itching like crazy all day...especially the one inside my belly button where I had an umbilical hernia fixed. I don't have stitches...the doc used Dermabond surgical glue instead. Part of it has flaked off, and part of it is still there.

My surgery was 10 days ago...do you think it's safe for me to put some type of lotion, or Vitamin E oil on the incisions at this point?

Thanks!

I put on Triple Anti-biotic ointment. Eased the itching and helped the healing. My surgeon was impressed with how little of my scars actually show and thinks the ointment was responsible.

Thanks David. Did you have Dermabond or stitches?

I just googled it, and came up with this:

Dermabond - Caring For Your Wound

From the looks of it, I'm going to have to put up with the itching.

Yep, I had the stitches. Now I feel sorry for you. Can't imagine not being able to scratch an itch. I'd go bonkers.

Can you just apply a little light pressure to the itches, that helps me sometimes.

Ok, this is not advice, this is what I did.
I scratched my insition, it itched so much, I did it ontop of my shirt, but I had to. I had the dermobond stuff, but I healed so fast from my cuts, I did not had any problem ripping open, and yes some of the bond started to come up, after two weeks, I sort of helped it come off. I did however not scratch hard, mainly just rub it hard to help the itch feeling.
ok now slap me on the hand.

I also had the DermaBond. But I was 'open' so I have a six inch scar. I was told "No itching and No lotions until it heals". After two weeks I just couldn't take it anymore. I started using Eucerin Calming Itch Relief Treatment. It worked wonders for me, and my scar has healed perfectly.
In fact I was so itchy because I was dehydrated. My whole body itched like crazy, I had huge flaky dandruff and even inside the folds of my ears were peeling. It was sooooo nasty. I must have looked like I never took a shower

My tummy itched a whole bunch after surgery, and still does in some spots. I had the same glue-type stuff on my incisions, which only lasted a couple of weeks. I used cortizone 10 cream for about a week, and just made sure the area was clean. I didn't put the cream on my incisions, just around them. It helped a lot! After the glue stuff came off, it hasn't itched as much.

Default itchy!!!

I have the dermabond too... I took benadryl and it helped. Then, I put ice on the incisions (on top of my shirt - not directly onto the wounds), which worked for a while. Ultimately, I just tried to keep busy to keep my mind off it. But, UUUUUUGH, it itched! I asked my doc what to do and she said, "Tincture of time". Very funny...
