I am Starving to Death
I am 5 days post op and starving. I know all my protein liquids are just passing through me so I am really hungry. Food looks and smells delicious. Any ideas of what might be palatible at this stage? I have another week before my post op visit but I might have to call and beg for some food. I had to do this diet 2 weeks prior to surgery as well so I am really sick of it!

Don't push it
You could try instant mashed potatos made like soup with chicken broth, but stay on liquids!!! You are so swollen inside and you don't want to go to the ER with a chicken nugget stuck in your tummy! If you just can't stand it maybe you could chew up some really good food and spit it out?? Seriously you might accidently swallow though so I wouldn't chance it.

I was allowed cream soups at six days post op, and at nine days I was allowed to eat mush and crispy.
Welcome home JJ, I was praying for ya.

That's a bummer....I had no appetite after my surgery. But Dr. Potts didn't require a special diet pre-op and it was okay for me to advance a little faster than the recommended timeline. Call and find out out if you can advance your diet, just to stay on the safe side.

I think Definitely!
Jello was on of the things we could eat, sugar free of course. Also, sugar free popsicles, that really helped. Call the dr tho! Hang in there!

I know how you feel, but I promise this too shall pass. The first soft food I tried was cottage cheese. Make sure you ask the doc! I know this may sound weird but I felt the same way, but I wasn't really hungry. I just kept thinking that I wanted to and would have normally been eating. This is hard to firgure out at first, but it will come to you!

Starving, fatigue,back to work
Seems like everything is so sweet. Jello, protein drinks, popsicles are gagging me. Seems like I have a lot of fatigue..... I have been getting out once or twice a day but recovery seems very slow. I am aiming to go back to work tomorrow (desk job) but will probably not stay the whole day. I thpought with lap I would snap back faster.

Hon, you had major surgery, and that is the bottom line. The only difference is that you had several small puncture sites instead of one long incision. Your intestines were still manipulated and still cut on. You are going to be fatigued, and I don't think you should be going back to work, but hey what do I know. Right now you should just be maintaining hydration and nutrition, and walking and resting. Even if it is a desk job, you have to be up. Please don't over do. Just cuz it was lap doesn't mean anything really. LOL, hugs.
Everything is sweet, enjoy that, I learned to dilute all my fluids, so today if I have a full strength something, it is only because there is only nasty water available. By staying with that habit, I never feel guilty if I have half apple juice and half water. I liked to half water and half propel or crystal light, and freeze them. I like them slushy and you can make ice cubes with it or make your own popcicles. Sugar free popcicles are really sweet, same with jello.
