Cool Im not losing weight???

I am 11 weeks out. I have lost 50lbs, and in the last 2 1/2 weeks and I haven't lost any weight. Is this normal at times?
I am eating protein and veggies, drinking lots of water. So what's the problem?
I haven't been able to do a lot of exercising due to another surgery I had 4 weeks ago. Could this be why, any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,
Tammy

Tammy,
I haven't had surgery yet, but I have had many surgeries in the past. Maybe your body is in some kind of shock. I know I had body shock with previous surgeries and my body was just trying to heal. It took some time before things were back to normal and it was discouraging.

I hope someone is able to get you and answer or some professional advice.

It is normal to have periods of slowing down, especially the further out you get. By the time you're within a 10-20 lbs of goal, you'll have to work just as hard as anyone else.

In the meantime, having a second surgery will impede your weight loss, as you're body need to heal. No matter how "minor" the surgery, it is still trauma to the body.

When you are back up and exercising again, you'll see the scale start to move. It also helps to just weigh once a week. You're body weight can change by 1-2 lbs each day based on your hormones, water intake, etc. A weekly weight is more accurate assessment of your overall weight. I generally would gain 5 lbs when I was in PMS mode.

Tammy,
Are you keeping track of the inches you have lost?? If you pay attention to those numbers, you may notice that you are losing inches eventhough you are not losing pounds. I should practice what I preach, but I keep forgetting to get a measuring tape. Besides, there are plateaus that our bodies reach where NOTHING happens. Maybe you should up the amount of protein and water you take in everyday, and once you start moving around more you will see the scale start to move again. Marie had some good advice too...don't step on the scale more than once a week. You know what they say..."A Watched Pot Never Boils!"
Good luck!!

Wink Plateau

Not to be technical or anything, but a "lull" in weight loss is not a plateau unless you go at least 4 weeks without losing weight. In the 2+ years I've been involved with thinnertimes, this is the most common topic of discussion. It's just a part of the process. You are bound to go periods of time without losing weight. It's normal and natural. Brenda is correct about losing inches. Sometimes the weight loss will stop but you will lose body mass. If, after 4 weeks, you haven't lost any weight, there are things that you should do like changing your eating habits and exersize routines. The bottom line I guess is not to worry about it unless those 4 weeks go by, and even then, it's not really anything to worry about. Staying off the scale is great advise too. The scale is not our friend until it's time to maintain your weight, which comes at about 18 months.

I hope this helps some.

Thumbs up

tammy,

my name is Roberto. I had surgery on march 2nd and to date I have lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 120 lbs. I don't do all the fisical things I should be doing but, as long as you follow instructions to the tee, you will loose the weight. I never step on a scale unless I'm visiting the clinic. as long as your clothes are getting bigger by the day, just enjoy life. Don't concern yourself with the scale. we have been big for years and it won't go away overnight, but, this time it will go away!!! . Hang in there and keep doing what your doing. Isn't it fun?!?!?!?!?!?

Roberto.

Smile Okay O'll stop complaining

Thanks Woody for your response. To me this feels like a lifetime... 2 weeks. Ever since I had surgery on 2/9 I have always lost weight... this is the first time a week went by that I didnt lose anything.... I will keep my head up and keep on, keeping on... I have never been one to do measurements, I usually judge by the clothes! having a blast and embracing my new life! Thanks guys!

Default Stall in weight loss,

Bridget,
In the last year my weight has stayed the same for two week periods several times. But it always dropped again. I know it can drive you crazy tho!

If you look honestly at your diet and know that you are not snacking or letting extra calories sneak in, then just keep up doing what you know is right and it will drop. If you see that you need to tweek things because you have been snacking a little etc., then do that.

Here is my challange for you. For the next two weeks, concentrate on water (64oz min.) protein (60 gm min.) and walking (everyday 2.5 miles min.).
Put the scale in the trunk of your car and don't use it until Aug. 9th (two weeks). On the 9th weigh yourself and post the results. I bet you will have a big 1 at the beginning of your weight. Are you up for the challenge?

Mary
