--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am sure you all know me as the dumping queen...can't hold anything down...well this past Sunday..I could not even swallow water!!!!I called the hospital...went to the ER....they did an EDG...they found that I had severe stenosis...the hole had closed going to my stomach. They used three different balloons to dilate the opening.I also had ulcerations.Sooo anyway...I was admitted(just got home) for dehydration and malnutrition......DUHHHHHH.
I could not understand why I could not keep anything down...now we know...should be much smoother sailing here on out.Feels good to be home.

Me too!
This happened to me as well. I kept thinking it'd pass, or it was supposed to be that way, but finally went it and the hole had closed up so that they couldn't get the balloon in at first. I had dillitations done three times in all. Just so you know when it is that small it will sometimes try to close up again after the first time. Then that procedure in itself is traumatic to your esophegus and may cause muscle spasms that feel JUST like the stricture did. Those calmed down withing a few weeks for me. Just had to eat SLOWLY and chew well. I was on liquids for a lot longer.

Sorry that had to happen to you, thank God you didn't get it worse. Christina had to go right back in for surgery because she had one too many sutures somewhere. Definitely a stricture of some kind. Too bad you had to live with it for so long before detected. That wasn't Christina's problem though, its the same idea, a sticture in that anastamosis I think anyway too many sutures.
A rough start there Van, and botchy, but now you can say you had your own complication, and I bet when all is said and done, you will say it was all worth it in the end.
I am so thankful I didn't get any of those complications, but sometimes it makes me fearful that something bigger, later, down the line, it just seems too good to be true sometimes.
Best of luck and believe it or not I was wondering about you Van today, I was wondering if you were still holding down the shrimp! That was the last time I saw you post.

Vanessa I hope that you will be feeling better soon and hopefully you will not be throwing up so much anymore! Glad to hear that it was something fairly simple to fix!

oh Dang!!
Vanessa,
I am so sorry you had to go through that. It sounds like a rough start that you had there. Good thing the bad part is over with. It's true that you can get another stricture.. but the good thing about that is you now know what it is. I know that's not really a good thing. Traci is right the day of my surgery I couldn't even keep ice chips down. I went down to Radiology to have a swallow test done and found out that there was no opening to my pouch, so I had to be re-opened the next day. That was no fun. Happy April Fools Day to me!! LOL It was extra sutures that was my cause, so he created his own stricture for me. I am the ONLY patient to date that this has happened to in his practice, so I guess I got lucky.. but he'll never forget my name.. with my weird complications .. lol
My surgery is on Monday.. Ack!! I am freaking out. Today is my last day at work.. I am freaking out about that too.. I know everything will be ok though.
Hope you feel better soon.. take care and stay healthy..

Been there
I can definately relate to you. I was fine until 6 weeks post op. I was starting to get neaseau in the morning and then i slowly couldnt keep anything down including water. Of course I was admitted to the hospital for dehydration and discharged the next day still couldn't keep anything down. This went on for 3 weeks while they sent me for 2 barium swallows(duh, i couldnt keep the barium down) but I did keep enough down that they could see i didnt have any blockage or leakage. So finally I was sent to Endoscopy so they went down with a scope and balloon and blew me up a little more and then I was fine. However, I was in bed for those whole 3 weeks that I was sick because I had no energy only to go to the toilet and get sick. I was literally in bed 22 out of 24 hours a day which ended up causing muscle atraphy and I had numbness in my legs for about 2 months and was sent to physical therapy and then a day later I had extreme foot pain which went on for 3 weeks all which I was going to PT walking on my foot 2 times a week. Finally found out because of the numbness in my legs I was over compensating and I ended up breaking a joint in my foot. It's a long road but you know what? I'm 4 months post op and I would do it all again in a heart beat. Keep your head up if I could get through my mess girl you will do great. I know its very depressing right now trust me i was in a huge depression but it will pass I promise.

I know I have been so lucky with this journey. I send lots of hugs your way, all that have had complications. Muscles are like relationships, they atrophy without working them. Hang in there, life gets better a little at a time.
