Default Had my 2 1/2 month appoinmtent w/surgeon

Hi Everyone,

I saw my surgeon on thursday. Its been a little over 2 months since I have had my surgery. I started at 295 and now I am 250. The doctor was thrilled with my weight loss. I was too, but then i started having some regrets, like why did I wait till 295 to have this surgery, why not do it at 250 or even 225, at least that way I would be under 200 now. I dont know where these stupid feelings are coming from. I guess even with this weight loss, i am still considered morbidly obese, and I sooo hate that term to describe me. So is my weight loss average for other people who are farther along then me? I had my surgery on Feb 26,2008. Is there anyone else who had the surgery the same time I did? If so, how are your weight loss going? And also what is everyone eating? I sometimes think I am eating too much.

Sasha the worst thing you can do is "compare" i know its hard not to but take if from me, you get depressed when you look at others who are loosing faster than you. I'm 4 1/2 months out and lost 54 pounds so your way faster than i great job keep on keeping on

Sasha,

Deborah is right - you cannot compare your loss to anyone else. There are so many things that affect us - age, starting weight, diet, sex, level of activity etc., you'll end up driving yourself nuts worrying about how you're doing compared to others.

I started my journey at 259.5lb (BMI 43.2) and managed to lose 35lb in 12 weeks pre-surgery. Many have asked why, if I was able to lose that sort of weight on my own, then why did I need surgery.

Well - fact is, I am a wonderful dieter. So good in fact that I've spent virtually every year for the past 30 years being on a diet for 6 months and then the other six months of the year, I put it all back on (and some).

I knew how to diet (badly) - I knew how not to diet (very well) - I simply didn't get to grips with eating sensibly inbetween.

So - that's the reason why I wasn't a great deal heavier to start with. The down side is that all those years of yo-go dieting have taken their toll.

Although I didn't start out as heavy as you, at 2 1/2 months I had lost 28.8lb. That's a long way from what you lost but I wasn't unhappy with it and neither should you be. What you are doing is working for you so keep it up and don't worry about what everyone else is doing.
