I have a some questions
Hi All,
My wife and I both have now joinded this side of the forum, April 30th. Her surgery was typical, mine had a few complications landing me in ICU for a number of extra days. With that behind us I had a few Questions:
1) While I feel good, I can sip water, eat yogurt, pudding, soups (cream of) and full liquids. I seem to only eat at the normal times 3 a day, but feel light headed and zapped of energy. SHould I force my self to eat 5-6 times a day, or is 3 OK.
2) Water consumption is defanatly decreased post surgery, I am afraid to drink too much at any single time. Should I let my body tell me if I am drinking too quickley and if so, will it be a bloated feeling or pain?
3) I was so excited about comming back to work today (Boaring desk job) but find myself wishing that I was asleep (no energy thing again). What was your time off and do you regret going back to work.
4) just a quick average of time you started feeling great after surgery.
Thanks all

3. protein, protein, protein
4. I went back to work after 2 weeks.....i had some incision pain for a few more weeks.........6 weeks mark was my ultimate "i feel great mark"

txchick is right. You won't feel hungry probably. Eating 3 times a day is totally fine but you should suppliment with a protein drink. The lightheaded is probably a combination of lack of protein AND dehydration. You really need to be pushing both right now especially since you have gone back to work. If you can see if you can work 1/2 days or one day on and one day off until you get more energy. It will be a few weeks until you're completely healed. GBP is MAJOR surgery and your body is a lil freaked out right now. Give it a lil time and you'll be feeling better probably between 5-7 weeks.

Yes, please drink as much as you can, your pouch will tell you if it was too much for you. Don't try to drink or eat too fast. allow some time for things to pass the your pouch opening with ease.
Don't pass up the protein (whey protein isolates are easiest absorbed by your body)...
I thought I wanted to go back after a week then a week and a half, then 2 weeks, but did not go back until 2 1/2 weeks and I am glad I stayed out that long. Week 1 once I was home, I felt fine. But at week 2 the fatique hit me. Still having effects from anestesia (sp?). I stayed home until I tried my first smushy foods at 2 weeks and was ok with them. Then I went back to work.
I was still called from my job when one of my big clients needed something. And I was still paid for my time because of the special situation going on at work (we are all losing our jobs - company is merging with another one in Florida) They are being very lenient with the few of us who are still here working until they close the doors here.
I am now 4 weeks out and feel very normal in many ways.
When I was 2 weeks out, I really only "ate" 2 things a day. And I made sure to drink my protein drinks. -And I was fine.
Oh, and Congrats to both of you!

the light headed was there for me 2. I went back after 2 weeks but really should have taken 3 weeks off. I still felt tired and sometimes dizzy . I am 6 weeks out and now really feel great.. still a pain in my left side every once in a while but its getting better. I have also found that I can drink so much better now... I can actually take a drink... not a gulp but a drink. Just remember the protien heals your body so just try as hard as you can to get that 60 G in a day. I still dont eat much solids food... but i get my protien in through shakes. and i am starting to give myself so much time to drink a 20OZ bottle of water... you will get there sweety .. just take it slow and easy...
you will wake up week six and feel like a whole new person....

I had surgery on April 29 and was astounded at how fantastic I felt the very next day. Silly me. I took to walking right away, and three days post-surgery I walked too far in the park, and realized I had to walk ALL the way back to my car. That was one looong walk.
Hey, we've just had major surgery! According to my manual, this period is six weeks.
One moment I feel as though I could conquer the world, and the next I could fall asleep on my feet.
Do get that water and protein in. That is my big accomplishment every day -- making the final check marks in my daily nutrition log. I've decided it''s just fine if I don't get a load of dishes done or my hair washed. We'll live in squalor for six weeks! LOL!

I had surgery on April 16th, got home four days later. My problem is that while I generally feel pretty good, I have a bad hip. The pain meds for the GBS helped me feel no pain for the hip, but now I am off NSAIDS which I took before for the hip pain, and the liquid tylenol isn't really cutting the hip pain. I know I probably shouldn't overdo it with the Loritab stuff which worked before, but I am going to ask my doctor to renew that RX for me....Also, I was losing like crazy initially, but it seems I am on a plateau for the last three days, wt-wise. I think that's normal, but I don't like my wife questioning me as to whether I am eating too much--cause I am NOT.

dont worry as much on the eating as you must on the drinking fluids and protein. You need at least 64oz / day and trust me you do NOT want to get dehydrated. Are you drinking protein shakes?
Great job on you and wife having surgery at the same time
