Thumbs up

Thank you all for your quick responses, I have to remember that I just got out of the hospital on Sunday, and am trying to go work a 10 hour day on Thursday!! No wonder my body was screaming!!! I am pretty sure that I was on the brinc of dehydration and had 5 grams protrin all day. I think that I caught up on my water and bought the 3oz whey protein shooters, they are 42 grams per, quick and easy!!!!! I also was thinking how could allergy's affect my feeling, I know my eyes are having a bad allergey season so maybe this was a contributing factor as well. Well I am taking Friday off and will go back in on Saturday if I feel up to it, again thanks all, I felt as though I was going to DIE. I do not want that feeliong any more

Take it easy man!!!!!
I took 6 weeks off of work, and am currently 4 weeks out, and while i feel pretty good, my pouch is still very very tempermental, and my strength is not what it should be quite yet.
Sometimes I cant even believe people on here who try to go back to work after a week or two...its crazy. Who's got a Doc that's advising that?!
Like you, I need to drink more water.....but do yourself a favor.....take it slow, and take as much time off as you possibly can.

I am the WORST patient, he advised that I take at least 3 weeks off. I have a major issue with sitting around, ADD I think, I just cannot do it. I will be fine for tomorrow after taking it easy today.

once again pardon me, but why have the surgery you KNEW you had to take the time off your doctor recommended. This is not just a little bitty surgery its major, honey you have got to relax and let your body HEAL because if not you'll be back in the hospital and may not come out! Take time off and do what your doctor said dont ruin this good thing. My thoughts are with you

For the allergies... Alavert makes one that dissolves in your mouth and doesn't cause drowsiness. I used it when I had my surgery because of the no swallowing pills. It was really great and tasted good too.

I do all my nourishment though task reminders and alarms OR ELSE, I forget to eat.

So my timer goes off once every hour and I have 2 to 4 ounces of something protein fortified like my protein shake, soup or yogurt. In addition to that, I add sips of water throughout the day and I try very hard to make all of my liquids add up to 64 ounces.

That protein intake was sooo stressed, I'm afraid not to put protein first.

Keep an hourly or daily journal. My nutritionist has me fill out a daily intake form. I created a spreadsheet so that I can also track my medication intake, etc -- so that by the end of the day, if I haven't made my protein quota, I 'll be able to throw in a quick supplement, or add an extra 4 ounces of water in me.

I've had three operations within the last 6 months. The last thing I want is to see the inside of a hospital room, let alone an operating room, or ICU, because of something that was in my control to easily prevent. Plus, I think my husband would give me the silent treatment if I screwed this up!

BTW: I'm 10 days post-op an open RNY. I feel fabulous, doing my hair, wearing makeup, going out, even driving, but get tired quickly. The only meds I take are Tylenol or Excedrin Extra Strength. The bloat I'm still losing keeps me asleep for no more than 3 hours at a time and I can't seem to stay in bed for more than 6 hours. My stamina to work all day I'm sure will come, eventually, with post-op recovery and loss of pounds.

Thank you all for helping out my husband rberge and myself. I really appreciate it. I just can't get over how tired i get and how fast. I am a person that is always on the go and right now it is very hard for me. It is killing me to just sit. I have like no energy. We went to the grocery store and by the time we were both done couldn't even get the bags from the car to the house without help.

Is this normal?????

I'm 12 days post-op and my energy is still in question, too. Because I now can sleep for longer periods of time without a bathroom break, I actually slept and slept and slept Saturday and Sunday away.

I can be up and going for about 4 hours, but depending on what I do, I can quickly get zapped. Even so much as emptying the dishwasher can land me on the couch for an hour, or in bed for a nap.

I think it may be do to my calorie intake, or lack thereof. I'm supposed to track that too, and in doing so, looking over my chart, I've been eating as little as 300 cals per day to as much as 900. I think on my higher calorie days I felt better.

I just might get chewed out for my chart on Tuesday when I see my nutritionist... but sometimes it's hard to eat when you're not feeling hungry, or tracking yourself properly. Especially when, in your brain, you'd say to yourself, "if I don't eat, I'll lose weight".... something I always thought was correct, yet was well-informed, was the way to "gain" weight.

Not eating to lose weight matra is something very difficult to break and is what got to me to where I am. Having to force myself to eat is often very difficult, but part of my continued retraining for life eating program.

Good luck!

OK, guys. Let's think about this for a second. What we did when we had this surgery is:

1) Had 5-6 blatant holes made in our abdomen for lap, or a huge incision for open. We don't come equipped with zippers. Someone actually used a knife to access your innards!

2) Our stomach was cut, sutured, manipulated and severally pissed off.

3) Had our intestines moved, yanked, played with, cut, stapled and generally insulted.

4) We bypassed a good portion of our small intestine, producing mal-absorption syndrome. Most Americans (and Canadians too) have to go on Survivor to create this type of calorie restriction.

5) The biggest part of the whole deal is this:You've done all of this damage on your gastro-intestinal tract that you now need to heal from. And on top of that, you're taking in, like 6 calories a day! (OK, you better be taking in more than 6, but you get my point). Healing takes calories, and so does living. And you're barely supplying any.

Is it any wonder you're exhausted? If you didn't put gas in your car, would you be shocked that it wasn't running right? No, you'd be amazed that it was even running at all.

This surgery isn't like any other. When you have a hysterectomy or a galll bladder removed, you body can demand the exra energy it needs to heal. But our's can't. We are pushing our systems into overdrive...and it takes more than a week or two to recover.

So, give yourselves a break and head for the nearest recliner. Stay on top of the fluids (this is VITAL!), eat what you can according to your surgeon's recommendations, and get that protein in via supplementation. Be kind to yourself....and nap!

Good luck to you...
