Default Mama's iron is low

Hi there! Just a quick note to say that I'm doing good, but just found out my iron saturation is an 11. Should be 15-55. The ferritin results will be in today. There is also a little issue w/my iron binding...it's high...not sure what that means. I work for a GI doc, and have an appt w/my PCP tomorrow. I just did labs Thursday and got the results Friday because we can call for them! One of the advantages of working for the doctors office...anywhooo, if the ferritin is off as well, then they'll scope me to make sure there's no ulcer or gi bleed anywhere. I've always taken my Bariatric Advantage vitamins, but never taken iron before, so am taking the slow fe iron from Walmart! It's spooky how it makes your stools black! I know TMI!! Other than that, all is well. There is an upside, my cholesterol went from 275 to 242 last time and now to 208 this time. So, hopefully I won't have to be put on meds. I know if I step up the exercise...or even exercise at all, that would probably get it down where it needs to be.

I take Bariatric Advantage Iron chewables... (they're my favorite)... how far out are you anyway? (I forget) I gave blood a couple of weeks ago and my iron was in an "ok" range for that... will be interesting to see labs next week!

Congrats on the cholesterol!

Try Vitron C. It's more expensive but it is absorbed the best as it has Vitamin C in it as well. YOu can get at wallyworld, CVS, Walgreens, etc.

I'm not back to work yet. I only had knee surgery a week and 1/2 ago! lol It will take 4-6 weeks until I'm ready. Otherwise, I'm doing good!

Hope that "big girl dose" works for ya!

Holy Sheet! Wow! It seemed like that knee surgery of yours was quite awhile ago...lmao! Must be the drugs I'm on! Well, I'm glad you are still off and recovering...and doing well. xoxo
p.s. I called for my other labs this morning and they came back low....not real bad, but hemoglobin is 11.6 and hematocrit 34.6...but, with the iron saturation at 11 and the ferritin at 3, they want to scope me.....(my docs I work for said this) They want to do an Upper and Lower!!! YIKES!!! So, we'll see what happens. I put myself on our schedule for next week and we'll see what my pcp says when he gets these labs. I'm hoping the pcp says to just continue w/slow fe iron and wait on the scope....but we shall see....
