Thumbs up 6 months out now

alrighty then,,,,, i just had last week my 6 month check up and i am down to 282 lbs. from 359 lbs day of surgery taaa daaa! My labs are all good! and i am feeling good, have learned to eat more solids and by now i am mostly eating salads, fish, shrimp, scallops and some soup here and there,,,i can eat rainsin toast in the form of 1\2 half of a raisin toast and some yogurt for breakfast,
for lunch a salad, or tuna for dinner, sometimes a 1/2 ofchicken pot pie insides only,,,or 5 chips and fat free refried beans....depends...sometimes just some cheese and pickles or olives,,,,
i keep any sweets sugar free....i drink mostly water, iced tea, and non fat milk now and then,, i keep nuts around for a snack, and munch carrots now and then for the crunchy need. i can eat sliced pears or apples with no skin. cheerios do well with me too and are a nice morning treat or dinner sometimes! i am seeing alot of inches now going away,,,my undergarments are very loose and so now i must replace at least 2 sizes smaller,,,,and my 2 pair of dress pants are pretty big too, so i am replacing them too! i had to get my wedding ring resized this week i went from a size 9 ring down to a 7.5 when i wash my hands the soap makes the ring slide right off, and so i am scared i will loose it now...so i resized. my blouses i bought 2/5 mo's ago are now pretty big on me too! I have even come down a size in my shoes to a 9 none from a 10.,,,,,this is awesome! i had some wine last night and wow that hit me like a ton of bricks,,,,yikes....although it was nice to relax and enjoy the night out with my hubby yikes i couldnt drive home, he was giggling about it and drove us home. Our oldest son who was babysitting our youngest said " wow you look great and your weight loss is going soooo fast!! bless his little heart he didnt believe i want to loose another 135 lbs.....oh i love that young man!!!!!

I am noticing many nice changes about my body and feel good over and over about my WLS choice! I dont see such a huge belly overpowering my body anymore, and i dont see these huge hips and butt sticking out so much anymore,,,,and I definatly feel more energized and dont feel so dang huge anymore. Its been a heck of a journey so far and really love all the wow moments, and can now see how truly big and unhealthy i was a year ago, and even 8 months ago,,,,i see old pictures of me and whoa i think, man i was big for me! I pray for all those struggling with obesity that God will bless them too with the courage and ability to have WLS to save their lives! I am still young at 42 and for the first time in years i am going to celebrate a upcoming birthday next month soooo much thinner and feeling great and i am going to dress up and show off my hard work to me! and my ever supportive hubby whom i tip my hat to, because he has been a wonderful source of strength for me and encouragement and genuinly cares and is concerned over my wellbeing. God bless him! He paid me the sweetest compliment at dinner last night,,,,that i look so good, and its like looking at me when i was in my early 20's from pictures he has seen of me and wished we could have had all of our children together and met waaaay back then. (our second marriages for both of us...FYI)
because i have taught him to fight hard for health and wellbeing...that was the coolest thing a guy ever said to me and meant it! Well onto the next 6 months......
i cant wait to see what they bring!! wooo hooooo!

Aw, this was a really nice post. You sound really great, positive, with an awesome attitude and super supportive family. I'm really happy for you! I agree about looking at old pics -- it's painful, yet makes me feel so proud and happy about my WLS decision. Here's wishing for a great next 6 months for all of us!!

Wow! You sound so happy and healthy.

Enjoy our your special days, you deserve them. Your husband sounds like a very nice and caring man. Kudos for him for actually expressing his emotions.

Again congrats on your journey.

Smile new to the group and surgery after life

Hi every one my name is Mary and I just had my surgery on April 28 th 08. So far so good a lot of abdominal pain from the blood thinner shot area but other wise doing better from the initial pain of the surgery. I was wondering if any one else actually gained weight prior to leaving the hospital as apposed to loosing any weight. I ask My doc about it he said its probably water retention or swelling because I had a potassium problem and they pumped me with sodium for 4 days. He said don't worry and give it 6 weeks before I see a notice in weight change, then I read how others have lost 30 or more before they left the doc so I wonder what's real... I am also asking if anyone can give me any good advice on the 2 week liquid diet after leaving the hospital what has bothered them and what have they tried..
Does any know anything good for water retention, because I'm off my blood pressure pills I no longer take water pills...I know its only been a week I am just trying to stay on track and not over do it or under do it..My doctor says I can drive as long as I don't take my pain med's before any one else have ideas about driving after surgery?

Thank You any information will be helpfull

Mushybelly, alot of people on here have said they gained up to 20 lbs in the hospital. It's all the water they are putting in you. I lost 7 lbs in the hospital but everyone is different. I think it's because I only lost 3 lbs before surgery. Others I know were on liquid diet before surgery but I didn't. It sounds like you had good reason for your weight gain...it was water retention. It will come off. For the water retention drink all your fluids and walk. That will do it.
For the liquid diet, I had a hard time with the protein powder I was drinking. I got so tired of it I almost gagged thinking about it. Had to find something else that I like better to get all my protein in. But the protein is important so try to get that in. I also got tired of broth but did well with apple juice and sugar free popsicles.
I was told not to drive for 2 weeks after surgery. I guess too much chanch of sudden movements that could jar your stomach.
Hang in there. You'll see the weight drop.
