Question help... need

I am having problems w/ wanting to snack. One of the things I miss the most is be able to eat pieces w/ chips, popcorn, grapes. Those sort of things. Does anyone have any suggestions for "snacky" things??

It would probably help if you could tell us a little bit about yourself. How long ago you had your GBS, how much weight you've lost etc. That would probably have a bearing on the responses you're likely to get.

Anyway - I'm just over 7 months out and my recommendation to anyone and everyone is to up the liquid - that helps most people overcome a case of the nibbles.

The last thing you want is to get into the routine of having snacks. Isn't that part of the reason we end up being puffy in the first place!

I eat 6 times a day - 2-3 small meals and 3-4 times I'll have something like a piece of cheese, fat free yogurt, some fruit etc.

Eat plent of protein and drink like a fish inbetween.

I know what you mean about the cravings. Popcorn was always my weakness. I'm going to the movies tomorrow and would love to have some. But I just remind myself of how wonderful this is and how great I feel and then I don't even miss it any more.

I find cashew nuts great for snacking on plus you get protein from them.

IMHO, snacking is dangerous. And I agree totally with Corrine above.

Snacking leads to weakening the much better habits you have been developing.

My suggestion (which works for me, since I, too, get the cravings, espcially when I am bored and/or tired), eat by the clock. it is a test of the will, and when you win it is a wonderful feeling. Commit yourself to eating ONLY at the times you designate on the clock.

Thank heaven for my exercise equipment - it has saved my butt when I was so drawn to the refrigerator.

Its natural to want to snack, for whatever reason. It's just bad for you in so many ways.

And incidentally, "snacking" and "having a snack" are two totally different activities. Just MHO.

Best of luck to you!

FIRST AND FOREMOST: when did you have surgery? Eating cashews at 4 weeks out would be BAD! Can you give us more information? We are at a loss here.

Also, as Claire said SNACKING IS EVIL! It gets up back into our old habits. Then the weight goes back on. Not a good thing to start doing again.
