The worst nausea of my life...
I am 7 weeks post op and for almost a week I have had terrible nausea. It happens all day long, and I can't hardly keep anything except water down. I called and left a message for my surgeon today but have not heard anything back.
I have bad allergies and nasal drainage and heard of this causing some nausea, so I tried taking sudaphed, my sinus's are nice and dry but I am stil nauseous. I am on prilosec 40 mg a day so I don't think it is an ulcer, anyone have anything to try or any other suggestions?

Do you have any other numbers to call? My hospital sent me home with numbers for my surgeon, the PA, the nutritionist, etc, etc.. did yours give you anything similar in your discharge papers which you might've forgotten?
If it's been going on for a week, I would try to call again if you don't get a return call soon.
Good luck..

"Dog Days' or "Window of Misery"
Isn't there something they tell us pre-op about week 6 thru week 10? It is called "The Window of Misery", my doc calls it "Dog Days'. It is the time when your pouch and the opening to the intestines are healing (or healed) and it is hard to get food in. They recommend that you go back to the same diet you had for the first few weeks after surgery until it corrects itself and you can eat again. Check in the search section here for either of the above.

My concern for both of you is DEHYDRATION. If you can't keep anything down. I mean anything at all, and most water comes up too, you may have a stricture. You should go to the ER (of the hospital your surgeon works at!) and get some fluids. Being in the ER gets the ball rolling. Someone has to look at you!
I'm hoping one of the stricture sufferers will stop by this thread.

i agree it totally sounds like me at 3 weeks post op with a nice pretty stricture. After dilation i felt and still feel 100 times better. Duckies right about that dehydration, please go to ER if you cant keep fluids down. With RNY'ers that could be a really serious complication if you dont get some IV fluid hydration

Nurse Duckie is right! The two things that often cause the problems both of you are describing are either a stricture or an ulcer. Both need to be diagnosed by an upper GI or EGD and both need medical attention. You really shouldn't be sitting on this ladies. It doesn't take much time to get dehydrated and if that happens you will have all sorts of problems and probably end up back in the hospital for awhile. Seeing its the weekend I really would go in to ER, like Duckie suggested and get some fluids into yourselves until you can get a doctor to test things out further.
I haven't been one to have a stricture but like Duckie I am a nurse. You need to take care of yourself ladies...don't worry about bothering the doctors..that is what they are paid for!

Milady -
have you heard of this 6-10 week nausea thing? It kind of worries me as I will be back at work then and I'm worried that I won't have any time left to take off for being ill if I get sick again :P

i agree with the dehydration... i had REALLY HORRIBLE dry heaving and nausea to the point of where i was on only water for THREE weeks... i couldnt even take my vitamins...
its REALLY IMPORTANT for you to take your vitamins! i was in the ER 3 times before they decided to give me vitamins and fluids through an IV.
After the gave me my vitamins and fluid i felt 1 MILLION times better and have been normal since... no more nausea.. etc..
dont let it get this far... go to your ER and tell them what your going through and how important it is for you to be able to do the things that you need to do post op...
hope you feel better!!
