Is this possible? Trip after RNY surgery?
I've scheduled my surgery date for June 23rd and had already scheduled a trip to Vegas for 5 nights for July 20-25. I know that everyone heals differently and such; but I just wanted to know if you had any feedback on whether I'd be able to handle it. I'm 31 and 225lbs. I haven't spoken to my surgeon yet about it, but the psychologist said that I would probably be really tired at that time, but he didn't see a reason I shouldn't go (unless I had an infection or something).
What do you all think? Should I attempt to change the date and/or cancel the trip? Thanks!

i think you should be ok, probably hard to eat out because you'll still be in the mush stage but doable.

I was back to work after 4 weeks postop. You probably will be able to handle it in regards to pain and how you are feeling but the hardest part will be finding food to eat. At 4 weeks postop I was JUST barely starting to eat meat and at that time it was mostly thin deli meat. So I guess it will be up to you but if you do decide to go just make sure you have meal ideas figured out a head of time.

I think you will be fine...everyone is different..and the biggest challenge for you will be eating, but you can plan ahead and pack foods that you will need.

For me, this would have been difficult. At that time I was very tired and emotional. Eating anything was hard enough, and finding anything to eat outside my home would have been impossible. Also, going out to eat with others was hard on me emotionally. I remember sitting in a Mexican restaurant 3 weeks post-op and just wanting to cry because everyone was chowing down on all the delicious food and all I could do was 2 teaspoons of refried beans. For me it was torture. My physical being and my emotions were changing so drastically that it was hard to just keep up.
I can only say that for ME, a trip to Vegas would have been a nightmare.
Now, at 8 weeks post-op, I can say a trip to Vegas sounds like a blast!! Personally, I would postpone the trip ... just my 2 cents.

I did the exact same thing. I had my surgery and 1 month later went to Vegas. We live on the east coast, so when we got to Vegas it was 12:30am their time, 4:30 our time. I was tired but I think it was from going to bed so late. I made out fine. Had no problems eating. Had a blast, everything was awesome. Go and have a great time.

I have to say I hate being the lone one out there sometimes, but there would've been NO way on earth that I could've done something like that.. I was too damn tired and not feeling good at all at that point.
I wasn't able to go back to work until 8 weeks post op and I was *EXAUSTED* all the time.

I'm on day 31 post op and wish I was in Vegas. It wouldn't be a problem for me. Like others have said, the food will require some planning but I could have easily handled it.

Thanks for everyones' responses! I have been to Vegas so many times I've lost count. So, I don't need to walk around and see everything. I do want to go to the casinos Palazzo and the Wynn. I haven't seen those yet! Other than that, I can plant myself in front of a slot machine. I'm sure that will wake me up! LOL I just love video poker! I get free rooms down in Vegas (and Atlantic City too), so the only "trip" portion I have to pay for is the flight. I'll spend less on food (maybe none at all depending on what doc tells me to eat), so I'll have more money to play with.
