Unhappy Not Feeling So Great

Hi, I'm newly out, almost 1 month. I'm still trying to get the hang of eating, how much, what, etc. Lately (a week or so), it seems I'm always feeling kind of "icky". I'm not sure how to describe it. I took Gas-X tonite, thinking that may help. I've been kind of afraid to eat except for a certain few items.

Has anyone else had this feeling, or will this too pass with time?

Thanks

Anne:

If it's just an icky feeling, then it will probably pass. I remember feeling yucky at about the same time. However, if your yuckiness starts to concentrate into specific, identifiable symptoms, then you should call Kelly. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

I am just over a month out too. My experience is a little different. I really don't feel that I am eating that much I back away from food after a few bites. But, on average I spend one day a week miserable. Episodes of vomiting white foamy saliva. One afternoon I sat with a plastic cup and vomited in intervals of five minutes. It is not my pouch contents but rather white foamy mucous. Yuck. It is during these episodes that I swear that I will never eat again. But, then the sickness goes away and I feel normal and the temptation to try eating again comes back.

I am also that finding certain types of food wear me out. I start incessantly yawning, tearing from the eyes and if I shut my eyes for a moment I could probably nod quickly off to sleep. Not all food makes me feel this way. This afternoon it was some steamed veggies after I got done eating the yawns began, the eyes watered, the nose runs and there I was hacking up white mucous.

To think some people actually force themselves to purge. Mine is involuntary. I will get the hang of this eventually. I just wish there was something I could take for an energy booster for these horrible bouts of fatigue. Something to combat the incessant yawns.

But even with these little episodes I still think that the surgery was worth it. I am down around 280 with the exception of brief intervals I feel better now than I did all swollen before the surgery.

Anne,
I don't remember a whole lot about the first few weeks. I do know to take it slow. Live on gas X and if in doubt call the dr.'s office.

Anne -

I kind of understand - not quite where you are yet, but yesterday I felt terrible. I mean really bad. I had eaten a sugar free popsicle (like many times before) and it just kind of sat at the base of my throat. This went on all morning/early afternoon. I went to pick up my son from school and started getting chills along with the miserable feeling.

So, I get home, crawl into bed and feel like I'm dying. I call my doc's office to see if I can take some Tylenol cold or something as I have a 101.5 fever. They tell me to go straight to the hospital. Ugh!

Somehow I manage to drive to downtown LA and get into the urgent care. I was fine... think all the blankets and such made me extra hot temp wise.

Anyway, my point is - now I almost don't want to eat anything else other than my protein for fear of getting sick.

Wink Feeling icky

The foamy white saliva stuff, normal. Nasty I know but normal. The food not sitting well, totally normal. What I was advised to do and still do to this day when I feel like is go back to your early post op diet. Do the soups and jello's again for a couple of days and then you will be feeling better again. It definitely helps as much as you DONT want to see broth ever again.

This is only a suggestion to help get you back on track, we have all been there. Good luck my lil sugar peas!

Red face Thanks

Thanks, everyone.

I know, I'm just afraid I'm not getting enuf protein and that's why I'm so tired. I tried e-mailing "Sid" about those protein drinks, but no response yet. Now this morning, I woke up feeling normal. So i'll try to figure out what is making me feel that way. So far, all I've had is a cup of herbal tea (no caffeine) and liguid multi vits. I guess like everyone says, it's trial and error.

Feeling yucky,

I am now 3 or 4 months out and I remember the feeling well. I spent days feeling like something was major wrong with me. It just felt bad and wrong. I spent a couple of day over the toilet myself. One thing that I want to suggest. Make sure that you are taking your antaciad. I had to double mine for a while just to feel better and be able to eat. So if your not taking them please get some and take it. Also the gas X is helpful and for me I had to start taking Kolace so that I could poop. The fact that I hadn't pooped in many many days was making my stomache upset. This lack of pooping went away as soon as I could start eating salad. Thank God for salad and vegies.

Anyway that's my two cents. The only other thing that Dr. Potts kept telling me. "we just did some major stuff to you on the inside of your body, we rearanged you inside. It will take your body awhile to reajust to all that has happened" so give your body a chance to heal and give yourself some grace. It's ok to go an lay down for a while if your not feeling well. Give that to yourself as a gift. The gift of naps. It will take awhile to heal.

One day at a time, each day you will get stronger

I'm 8 weeks out and I had some of the same problems. I was so unhappy and thought I had made a huge mistake in having wls. It will pass! I agree with Bridget, go back to the basics. It really is trial and error. what makes one person sick may not make someone else sick. Make sure you take your time and CHEW,CHEW,CHEW. It is a learning process. Just follow what your little pouch is telling you.
