Default Can anyone help

Hello guys

Ive been watching for a while and taking all people say.
But i cant find an answer for my next question.

Im 6 weeks post op ( Gastric bypass Lap )

And when i had my pre op interviews they all said my pouch would be able to take 2 spoons of food.
But from the start i noticed i could take more . i wasnt forcing or anything i was sticking to my diet of fluids and proteins drinks.
But now ive started my soft foods my meals are more like a small childs dinner not 2 spoons full. Im still losing wieght but i just wondered if this is normal. as in did the doctor make my pouch slightly bigger for some reason .

I will be seeing him in a couple of weeks do i will find out for sure then.

But untill then i just wanted a little advice as it is on the back of my mind

Anyway i hope some one can give some advice

Hi all nice to be here speaking at last

dont "test" your limits on your pouch. Your normal but you realy only need 2/3 oz of food in there right now. Trust me your pouch will not allow you to overeat much longer welcome to TT

On soft/pureed foods I felt like I too could eat too much. But believe me...when you get to the point where you can eat REAL food...you'll realize that your pouch is indeed normal.

It took me a while to really know what my pouch was telling me. But it becomes clearer as time goes by.

But I'd ask your doctor and double check that you are indeed following the rules. Good luck!

This has been a concern for me as well lately since I have been stalled for 4 days now. I eat my protein drink for breakfast, and for lunch and dinner I can eat from 4-6 oz of food. But I am on soft stuff..cottage cheese, yogurt, peas, beans, etc. Am I eating too much? I'm scared I will work up to eating like I did before. I'm not ever full so I'm not pushing it. How many oz. do you all eat at a meal? And is it soft food? or solid? And how far out are you? This would really help. Also, I ate Pintos and Cheese from Taco Bell (fattening). Is that real bad? I can have beans now, just supposed to be low fat.

Hiya

well to answer some of your questions

My diet says i can eat a few things i though i couldnt . but i start the day with all my vit's and iron and protein drink etc. then every few hours milk and the odd cup of tea sometimes a lunch time soup. then for dinner i have this type of food this being what i had tonight but i would like to add i dont eat this kind everynight . but just only when i feel i want it. i can just get away with having cheese and some mouth melting crackers or again a soup. but for some reason i love cheese after the op

I dont know how much it weighs but its about

Half a small potatoe (baked and skinned)
quater of a small chicken beast (minced then cooked and well chewed)
and about 2/3 small ears of brocoli
after 1 small scoup plain low fat ice cream

I dont always eat it all if i start to feel full or feel its going to be enough ill stop.

It may sound alot but its very small and doesnt cover a very small side plate you would rest a bread roll. But it is larger then 2 spoons full.

But in the last 4 weeks ive lost 29.4 pounds so i guess im all ok inside

But if i eat something that my body doesnt like i am sick . but ive not dumped yet but thats because i stay away from anything sweet :P ( halo over head )

So its trial and error for me at the moment

Right i think ive found the answer to anyone who mat be interested.

With a gastric bypass you can have two diffrent procedures.

The normal Cup Procedure And The Tulip Procedure

The diffrence is the tulip lets you Tolerate food / quantities better and ealier . But you have to still eat slowly.

Im guessing the cup way is very popular in the US whiloe the tulip is popular in the UK of course depending on your doctor.

But what i did find very interesting is.

On the discovery channel i sure the program about a 28 stone boy having a gastric bypass.
And only 6 to 8 weeks after the op he was drinking FIZZY cola and eating pizza. But i cant find any information on what procedure he went.
Because im told no matter what stay away from fizzy drinks.
But the good news is the bioy did go from 28 stone to 12 stone .

Do your rules in the US say no fizzy

Yep, no soda for the rest of my life. But I know many who had the surgery years ago that do drink it. It's supposedly just not good because the carbonation expands your stomach and lets you eat more and we don't want that.

Hi ya

Just wanted to say welcome aboard and offer my two cents worth

I was always told to stay away from the fizzy and did so until about 15 months post op. I now have it as a treat from time to time but never at home.

Very interesting what you found out about the different types of bypass - I never knew about this. Mine is definitely one that can tolerate more food - I feel like I can eat a horse sometimes!

Just remember protein protein protein and you'll do absolutely fine. Oh, and carbs are the devil!

good questions being asked here. I would just like to add that in these early days, sticking to healthy choices and listening very carefully to your tool is vital.
Becasue of the restriction of the pouch, you have no choice but to lose, however in2 or 3 years you will be able to eat alot mre. Which is why learning how to control portion ad make nutritious choices is absolutely vital!

You are doing great to be informed!

no fizzy, ever, and do not drink when eating. IT pushes food out of the pouch and removes the ability to feel full.
