Default how much should i be able to eat?

i had lap rny 3-17-08 and monday i was able to start soft cooked veggies, oatmeal, cheese, etc....no meat.

anyway. it seems like i can eat more than im supposed to be able to. yesterday i made a pouch of weight control oatmeal for lunch and i was able to eat the whole thing.

for dinner i was able to eat 1/2cup beans and 1/2 cup cottage cheese. that just seems like a lot of food to be able to eat. way less than what i could eat before but i thought i should only be able to eat 2 tablespoons food. im worried my pouch is too big and im worried i will stretch something.

I'm kind of curious too. I'm a little over 2 weeks post op and I don't really get a "full" feeling, so I've been just going by "ok I know this is how much I should eat" and then I'll stop. Will I ever get a full feeling? My biggest fear is stretching the pouch out.

That does seem like a lot for so soon out. Be sure you are taking small spoonfulls and chewing very well (yes even the oatmeal). I am 20 months out, and a pouch of the Weight control oatmeal is almost too much for me.

Sounds like an awful lot to be eating in one sitting to me too. I am 8 1/2 months out and still can only get down about half a pack of oatmeal.

We are the same, and I can't eat a whole pack of oatmeal (I had some for breakfast today). I add a lot of water and some milk to it too. I can eat maybe half. I am learning to take small bites and not eat fast, but wow that is sooo hard. For lunch today I had 2 oz of very flakey salmon and I know I am full. I burp or get hiccups when I am getting to the point where I need to stop. Does you body give you any signals to stop?

If you're like me you might have a problem with small bite sizes. Go invest in some toddler flatware so that you can only put a little on the spoon at a time. And having smaller plates makes it look like you have more food.

After you take a bite, set the utensil down, and chew until everything is pretty much dissolved. Then do it again. It feels like it takes forever, but that's the point! I admit that it's still hard for me to take 20 minutes to eat a small meal, but the more often I make myself sick the easier it gets .

Understand that semi-solids don't fill you up nearly as much as full solids. The package may say what they want about weight, but your pouch will definitely let you feel the difference. That said, just because you're "able" to eat an entire package of oatmeal doesn't mean you should. Instead of making the whole pouch, try just preparing half of it to start with. If you end up eating all of that and still don't feel full, wait a bit and then see if you're really hungry enough to make the rest of it. Putting yourself through the extra hassle of making more food won't seem like it's worth it if you aren't truly hungry.

For me it wasn't that my body was telling me that it needed the food, it was my head. I WANTED to eat, because I like eating. It tastes good, and what else is there to do when you're just lying around the house? Try to see if when you think you're hungry you really are, or if you just want to eat. Eventually you should be able to feel the difference.

I’m about 10 weeks out and I also worried I was eating too much at the beginning. I would measure everything because I didn’t want to over eat, I never ate more than ½ cup of anything, but I think I’m lucky because I never felt hunger so I was ok with just eating that. I would also use the baby spoons and take my time; by the end of the meal my food was cold and so not ever appetizing. Now at 10 weeks sometimes I can’t eat the ½ cup of whatever but because now I eat chicken or fish and it’s heavier than the soft foods from the beginning. It’s hard to tell at the beginning when you are full but believe me your body will let you know if you eat too much and then you will learn to cut back.

Default I don't really get hunger pains like pre surgery

now I get the shakes if I've gone too long with out eatting. Someone earlier asked if your body gives you signs. That's one of mine, the other is the gurggling, gasy sounds when it's time to stop or if I've eatten the "wrong" foods. Hope you find your answers.

At 2 weeks out I too could do 1/2 cup cottage cheese or a 6 oz container of yogurt and didn't really get that full feeling....but once I started on more dense foods I was full so much sooner. As long as you are only eating over a time period of 20-30 min and you stop when you feel full I wouldn't worry too much about it.
