Hi Mark.

I think if your staples came undone, and let's say your food is been emptied into your stomach cavery, you will start feeling ill fairly soon.
If you drink some water, do you feel real cold in your stomach? I hear that is a sign you have a leak.
About not feeling hungry, it was weeks before I felt a bit hungry, and even then I only have felt hungry three or four times, and not in the way I used to before, is more of a weak anxious feeling, probably from low blood sugar.
About dumping, I haven't dumped, I did get sick once and had nothing to do with what I ate, was more from a headache I got from some smoke of my enighbors burning something they shouldn't in their brush pile (plastic it smelled like). About the full feeling, took me some time to know how full felt, because it is different then prior to surgery when I used to overstuff my self with too much food. One thing I did felt, was like a knot on my stomach, mainly because I think it was still healing, I don't feel that no more thank God.
You are just two weeks out, I say is a bit soon to start testing see what is wrong or not. I do recomend you bring all your concerns to the doctor, and don't push your pouch. Things like Lettuce and such I was told not to try until 6 weeks out. Some people have a hard time tolerating that even then so they leave it for later, so far, I can tolerate all green/raw vegetables, etc.
Not sure if I made sence, but hope it helped some.

WOW Mark did you have the bypass ? or the lap band. ? cause I am one week out ... and cant have anything but whats on the clear liquid diet and yesterday they added protien shakes from edge advantage. BUT NOTHING solid??? NOTHING ... not till week 3 and then I have to blend that up. Mark be careful what you put in there its still healing just like a cut....... just sounds like ham 2 weeks out might be pushing it ...

Yeah I agree with Amanda, you should be focusing on liquids and protein shakes. I am soon to be 9 months post op and still have not been cleared to eat things like lettuce and raw veggies and fruits. Doc says they are hard to digest by the pouch. I do think that once you start on solids and not the liquid phase you will start to get that fullness feeling you are looking for. Liquids pass through so much more quickly. Good luck.

i had my surgery on january 28th and i STILL dont have the "urge" to eat.. but what i do is i meadsur eout my food to be a certain amount so i know that i need to stick to that amout or less.i generally try to use a 3/4 of a cup. an i also chew about 25 times and eat EXTREMELY slow.. i too have never got dumping so i have no problem with sugars.. so usualy acouple of hour after dinner illl have some fruit or something like that.. just try to a have a well rounded diet and eat certain portions.. dont try to eat till your "full" just try and eat till your satisfied... it took me about a month and a half to relize what that was.. lol.. well i hope this helps.

So i did eat a bit of cheese no problem.
I decided to try a normal meal so i had some lettice cucumber and a slice of think sandwich ham.

It all went down with no problems but at the end i still wasnt sure if i was full or not . but one thing im fairly sure it added up to more then 2 spoon fulls of food , for which the doctor said he was going to make the size of my pouch.

All this is making me think has the operation failed . in what way coul dit fail . could the staples come undone .
or has my doctor just stabbed me 6 times in the belly and sent me on my way wothout doing anything

Anyway let me know what you think and ill phone up the support team aswell.

Thanks

p.s dont get me wrong ive not got the urge to go out and over eat im still sticking to a diet.
I'm really sorry to sound like a bitch but from reading the posts and threads you have submitted in the past, it really seems like you really didn't do your homework before the surgery. I know that myself, and I'm sure just about everyone on here, knew so much about the surgery BEFORE the actual surgery that we could have been spokespeople on the subject. It wasn't just from meeting with doctors either. Its from doing the research yourself online. I know this is a place where we come to help each other, but I just cant get past the feeling that you didn't do enough research beforehand. Food HAS to go slow. Your stomach HAS to heal correctly. Thats why the doctors make you do the liquids, then the puree, then the soft foods. I'm a little over 2 weeks post op, so I feel your pain, I really do. If you keep "experimenting" like this your going to hurt yourself and not heal correctly. There is reason behind the insanity. I haven't dumped either yet, but that doesn't mean I'm going to start eating things to make myself dump. You HAVE to take it slow. I'm sorry if this seems harsh, but this was a major surgery and you have to do what they say. Its for your own good. And please please please start researching more on your own. It seems you don't know the things you should have already known ahead of time.

Default Hey Mark!

Well 1st of all, I didn't go through a BTC so I really didn't know what to expect and I didn't find this wonderful site until last year. I remember feeling so totally lost as to what I should be doing, eating or not eating etc.. I was sent home with the instructions of do clear liquids for a few days then gradually work your way into soft foods then go from there. I did experiment (trial and error) alot because I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing, so don't feel bad about it. There are a lot of good people here with a lot of good advice so please feel free to ask away. I do remember though that I threw up a lot for the 1st 6 months because I was trying to eat things I shouldn't or was not chewing enough. I called it clogging where the food won't go down and it won't come up. That's a miserable feeling. Sooo my advice to you would be take it slow, chew, chew, chew and always ask if there is a diet plan printed so you know what you should be eatting at what stage. If not ask here, there are lots of folks who can help you along the way. Best of luck to you.

Sharon

Hello Mark,

I'm 12 weeks post-op...and I too experience hunger. I guess we are not one of the lucky people who NEVER have hunger. I'd personally stick closely to a soft food diet until your pouch heals. I ate some mashed up chili beans about 2 weeks post op...but was told they should have been BLENDED up at that time. You do not want anything hard/sharp irritating your pouch...period! Once the swelling goes down and you are on a regular type food diet...you will feel the fullness...I promise! For now, measure everything to make sure you are getting in enough protein/fluids/acceptable foods.

Good luck!

Cathy

PS~ You mentioned you were not sure if you actually had the surgery...I was concerned that my doctor did an experimental fetal implantation (boy, was my stomach looking pregnant!!!)

Im sorry to be a bitch when i say stop posting if you cant help matters, people like you are no better then the bullies ive been running from all my life.
I eat 1 bit of ham a i bit of lettice and you jump down my throat instead of trying to help why i was worried.

And for your information many people on this forum have or thought about forcing a dump to see what its like.
it is called learning process how would you cope out on your own if you dumped and didnt know what it was like and it was worse then you thought . if you had tested it you may have taken better care not to get in that position.
now get off the friggin subject of the lettice or next time someone has a problem they wont give the facts down because they will be scared posters like you will jump down their necks.

Yes i mentioned force dumping . that didnt mean i have done it or going to do it today.

But yes if i dont dump within 6 months because i am careful on wha i eat, as i wasnt a persistat face stuffer pre op so i doubt ill be one after. i will force a gentle dump at home where m family are , just incase for some reason im caught outside alone and i dump . i will now what to do how to handle it or it will make me sure to avoid it at all costs
If you really thought I "jumped down your throat" then I'm sorry but I was just telling you the truth. I may not sugar coat it as much as people around here, but if you had really read what i wrote, it was all constructive criticism. I never mentioned anything about lettuce, just that you need to be careful. And I also never claimed to know everything. But I do know that MANY people on here do know a lot about the surgery and about the aftermath. And I'm sorry you had bad experiences in the past, and I have a pretty crappy memory too, but thats why I wrote a lot of things down. If you really thought I was "bullying" you, then sorry. Just trying to help.

I also think that it's a little soon to be testing out the limits... you really need to let your pouch heal a bit before putting it through the ringer. At six weeks I could digest lettuce okay, but pickles still give me hell (which was devastating; I LOVE pickles). This is pretty much the same thing most everyone else has said, but just stick to what your doctor told you. Meats, veggies, breads... all of that should be avoided until you get the okay to start trying them. Good luck.
