Thumbs up Bill's on the Loser side!

Hi all~
I can't say that today has been an uneventful day. Bill and I got to the hospital this morning at midnight and got called back at 12:45 a.m. We made it to the room and he changed, got his sleeping pills and fell asleep pretty fast. I got to sleep in the futon-like chair bed that they have.

We woke up at 5:00 a.m. and he took his shower. They came to get him at 6:00 a.m. and because he was the first case, I got to be with him in the pre-op room as they prepped him for surgery. A kiss good-bye and he was being pushed into the OR and I was walking to the lonely waiting area. Bills surgery was scheduled to start at 8:15.

I didn't cry until I got a phone call from a girl at work who also had GBS, but by Dr. Potts. She could hear in my voice that I was nervous and not myself. So, thankfully for her, I got to cry and let some of my fears and emotions out.

I wrote Bill a letter during the beginning of my wait just to put in writing how I feel about my soulmate. I'm telling you all, being on this side really sucks while you're waiting. I saw Dr. C and Kelly walking towards the OR at about 7:50. I'm guessing they started right on time. I crocheted a few kitchen towels, being new at this, it takes some time. At 11:00 I received a call from Dr. Callery who said that he was able to finish Bill's surgery laparascopically, HOWEVER, he wasn't comfortable with the way the bowel anastamosis(I think that's what he called it), looked. He said that it had a bit of a crink in it and he felt more comfortable opening him up to correct that rather than through the lap. This meant another hour to hour and a half. Got off the phone with Dr. C and began to cry even more. At 12:30, I went to call my mother in law and my cell phone was disconnected, (thankfully after I received the call from my friend). Ooops! Forgot to pay the $60 bill and can't pay it until Friday. Dr. C came out at 1:00 to let me know that Bill is doing fine and that he's in recovery. He was able to explain to me what was going on inside of Bill. Bill has had previous surgeries and one in particular left some scar tissue in the abdomen area. Of course I thanked Dr. C after asking many questions and he said that he'd be out of recovery in a few hours.

I decided to drive back to Spring Valley to pick up Bill's cell phone from our son and here I am. I'm getting ready to head back but I wanted to let you know how it went with Bill today. I'm pooped and anxious to see my baby.

Thanks to everyone who has kept him in your prayers and I ask that you please continue them. I don't want him to be disappointed in the fact that he ended up going open with lap scars as well.

I'll check in later.

Default Irela and Bill

First of all welcome to the other side Bill. I am sorry to hear of Bill's complication (somewhat) in surgery and that he went both ways.. that stinks! However, the best part of the whole thing is he's here!! He's really here!! He's safe!! He's on the other side!! YAY!!

Thanks for the update.. you get some rest girl.. you sound exhaused.. I couldn't imagine being the one waiting .. that had to be difficult.

I am so sorry you had to go through that..

Talk to you soon.. take care and wishing Bill a safe and speedy recovery.

Thumbs up The Other Side

Glad to hear Bill's on the other side, on his way to becoming a Big Loser!

I can empathize with your feelings about being on the other side. It's MUCH easier to go through the surgery yourself then to wait while the most important person in your world faces it themselves.

Keep us updated and let him know we all said "HI!!!"

Irella,

I'm so glad to hear that Bill's surgery went well - even though it took a bit longer. That has got be awful waiting.... he's lucky to have you by his side though.
