Well wishes are coming your way from Virginia! I did the waiting game when Mike had his surgery 5 1/2 months ago. I would have rather been sliced on again than worry about him during surgery. Bill will be fine. He has a WONDERFUL wife to help him. Keep us posted on his progress and we look forward to hearing from him soon!

Irela,
What you are going through is the same that Bill went through for you. What an awesome gift you are returning to him!!!
I told my husband he should have won the husband of the year award for the stress I put him through. Well, consider you getting the wife of the year award. He needs you now and you are there for him...have courage, he'll be fine!!!

Irela and Billy,
Yes, the waiting side is the pits, according to my buddy. I, too, was a lap that went open......I believe it was for the same reason! Means that I have a couple or four small scars, but hey, with that big one running down the middle who cares about the little ones? Not me! Is Billy up for a visitor?? I would love to drop by and say hi today, maybe sneak him in a cheeseburger and shake...........oh wait, nevermind that part! LOL!

Visiting
When I left Bill last night, he was relaxing with some additional morphine. The problem is not his stomach or the incisions. The problem is his back started to spasm and he was not able to get control with the pain med's they allow him to slowly administer. Poor thing had back surgery a few years ago and fused two of his discs, but with weight gain, it has gotten bad again. We did get up and did some laps around the ICU nurses station. When he called me last night he told me he had been up a few more times after I left. We spoke for 1/2 an hour. It was nice to hear his voice at night.
I'm on my way to drop the kids off to school, to an appointment and then up to ICU to be with him today. I'm sure he would love visitors Trisha. That's very nice of you.
Yesterday, I did visit LauraLee, who by the way is in GREAT spirits!
Thanks again for the continued prayers and support through all of this.

Irela and Billy,
I am so sorry to hear that you had to have your surgery done both ways Bill. It bummed me out to hear that! I went to go see you after begging my nurse to let me off of my floor, but when I got down there I realized I did not have your last name. I just wanted you to know that I was thinking of you, and was wanting to come and pay you a visit. I wish you nothing but a speedy recovery. You are in my thoughts and in my prayers!
Irela...thank you so much for taking time to come and visit me. It was great meeting you. You truly are such a nice person and it made me feel really good that you took time out of your stressful day to still come and visit me, even though your mind was on your husband! Also all the sweet and kind posts really put a smile on my face and I thank you for that.

Update
So today was a better day. Bill was able to get his back pain under control. Due to some "politics" going on in the hospital, Bill was told at 3:00 A.M. that he was going to be moved up to the 4th floor. His ICU nurse was very upset that they were going to move Bill when he really should have stayed in ICU a bit longer. Once he got to the 4th floor, they didn't have his room ready. Thy had him sitting outside in the hallway for a long while. The ICU nurse was very upset with the 4th floor nurses and so that's how his day started today.
When I got there, he looked better and was proud to announce that he had been the first one to walk, out of the 3 that got their surgery done yesterday. I'll give that to him. He was determined to be the first one to have surgery that day and be the first to do just anything.
Well, I'm worried about him. Although he is walking around quite a bit, he is not doing so well with the spirometer. He's barely making up to 500. Pre-surgery, he was at 2200. He has a lot of phlem in him and he hasn't been able to get rid of it. He has coughed a little bit and gotten some of it up, but he's afraid of coughing harder and not being able to stop and pull his incision open. I got on him because I don't want him to get pneumonia and not get better. He says he's trying to do the best he can.
I gave him a shower today, which helped him feel better. It was great being with him today and seeing him progress in the walking. I miss my honey. I hope he's able to come home soon.
We did meet another one of Dr. Callery's patients. Her name is Anna. She said that she has been on the forum to read our postings, but hasn't set up an account yet. I encouraged her to do so and gave her our phone number and email if she had any questions.
Anyway, Bill just called and told me that they have the fluids pumping into him faster. He's not producing enough pee.
Good night all.

Okay, Irela, relax honey. Bill will not reach pre surgery spirometer. He has been cut open, his muscles are sore. I had to puff that thing every day until I got to 2000 before surgery, and after for the first day or two I couldn't get it up. I never got back up to full capacity for several days.
When Bill needs to cough remember to put a pillow over the incision and apply pressure over the incision. The sutures won't come apart, they only feel as if they do.
Keep us updated on Bill's urine output please. Those fluids are probably going in at 125 cc's/hr, and should increase urine output quickly. As long as he is making 30cc's of urine an hour he is okay. My urine output was a little low too, and I swelled up awful after surgery. I weighed more the day after surgery than I did before. I had the edema for almost a week, but I never did have to go back on my diuretics nd when the swelling went down, and urine was good, I lost weight so rapidly.
I can't wait for Bill to be home and back posting with us. You better block out a coupld hours for today, just to give Billy all the hugs coming his way.
Hugs, Irela, you brave lil toaster you!

He's still in
Bill is still in the hospital. This morning at 2:00 a.m., he was having a hard time breathing. Putting it in his words, he felt like he was "drowning". Because he wasn't producing much output, the nurses upped his iv fluid intake and made it run through his system rather fast. That and the lack of their intelligence to give him the pain medication for his back spasms was making him feel like he couldn't catch his breath. They had to call Dr. Callery into the hospital and even the hospital administrator got involved in this whole mess.
We just came back from the hospital. It's been a LONG day! We walked 5 laps this evening, (he did many more throughout the day), and I got to talk to Dr. Callery. I told him I was rather upset at the way that the nurses reacted to Bill's complaints. As Bill put it, Bill was venting to me what had transpired in the wee early morning hours and I got very defensive. Not towards Dr. Callery. If it weren't for him, Bill would have probably passed out or something, but thank God he is doing well right now.
We're hoping for a "get out of jail" card tomorrow. The kids and I are waking up early and getting there at 7:30. Dr. Callery said he'd be there by 8:00 and make his decision then.
Please keep Bill in your prayers. He really needs them. Heck...what am I saying, we all need them. The longer he's gone, the more I feel lost without him and the whole family relies on our strength as a team. Right now, the team is in limbo until he can come home.

I'm Sorry
I'm sorry that Bill is having the problems that he is. I also did not produce enough urine. They put the damn catheter (sp) back in me. Let me tell you that wasn't fun! So I can feel his pain with that. I hope that his lungs clear up, and that he gets to come home tomorrow. I will keep him in my prayers.
