What is wrong with me?!?
This has been the most frustrating week since my surgery! I am almost 5 weeks post-op (lap rny) and I have vomitted at least once everyday for the last week! Part of it is because I have had a terrible cold and lots of sinus drainage. When I e-mailed the nurse to ask, she said the drainage was to blame for the nausea and that when my cold cleared I should be better. The other half of the equation is my own stupidity. For some reason, I can not get in the habit of eating slowly and chewing everything really well. You would think throwing up everyday would be a 'SUBTLE' reminder but for some reason, I am having the hardest time adjusting to the new rules of my pouch. Did anyone else have this problem? I get so frustrated with myself and am not sure what to do. I am so tired of puking!! PLEASE HELP!!!

I have struggled with the drainage issue and nausea for the last two months. Thankfully I was just sick to the stomach andnever threw up. Can the docs office give you anything to help you through the nausea? As far as slowing down the eating, I really struggled the first three months post op with this. Even still at soon to be 8 months I sometimes have to consciously make the effort to slow down. Good luck and be patient it does get easier.

Hi Amy --- throwing up is horrible! I used to use an ice cream bucket when I was sick... now I use a coffee cup! LOL!
I'm to blame too... eating too much or too fast or not chewing enough. You might want to go back to clear liquids while your sinus drainage is so bad... give your pouch a break! If you are getting sick with EVERYTHING you take in, call your doctor's office back... could be a stricture!

Katie beat me to it, but I was going to say this as well. Try a few days going back to the basics and see if that helps.
Good luck, honey! I hope this passes quickly!

hi sweetie, i had the same problem i was not eating slowly and thus vomiting about 2-3 times a day at 3 weeks post op and you know that vomiting makes that opening very swollen and in my case caused a stricture that needed dilation. So please be ever so careful and know that everytime you vomit its making that hole close making anything else you eat harder to go down.
I know what you mean about having to reprogram you mind in order to eat slowly and chew you'll get the hang of it

Hi Amy,
I am 7 weeks post op and I know how you feel. This week is the first week I haven't thrown up at least two or three times a week, earlier on, it was even more frequent.
As others said, make sure you check with your doctor to make sure nothing medical is going on before anything else.
What I found helps me is to make sure I use a really small plate (I bought some 'appetizer' plates for .99 that were really cute from Target, so I didn't feel deprived) and a salad fork instead of a regular fork. These tend to remind me to take smaller bites and to chew chew chew..
Also, for me anyway, if I forget to eat too soon after drinking I will feel sick to my stomach as well. I really dislike not being able to drink with my meals so this is a difficult one for me but this has been the biggest help in not getting sick while eating, I think.
Good luck

I too bought smaller plates at Target...I'd recommend also getting BABY spoons/forks until you can moderate your portions. I started with baby spoons and have now "graduated" to normal utensils. I'm a big girl now!
