Default Little Bit of Pain, lotta bit gas

Well I am home, and I am a LOSER! But wow, I wish I was not in so much pain. My left side HURTS! A lot. He said that was normal, but I did not expect it to be so bad, especially since all the other incisions really don't hurt (the Jp drain is tender but not painful) Oh and the gas, the not so glorious gas, and boy do I love to fart. It feels so nice! (What am I saying, is the liquid vicadin making me loopy?)

So as some of you know, i am a 7th grade science teacher and I have to say that I am overwhelmed. My kids collected money and sent me flowers. 4 moms called me to check on me, my sub said my kids were fantastic, and last night a nurse walked into my room with the cutest stuffed rabbit and frog. She said a little girl came up handed them to her and asked her to deliver them to me. I had told them that I did not want them to see me in the hospital. So when the nurse said she could take them in Jiovanii was like NO...she told us not to come, but I wanted to get her something because we miss her so much. So she zoomed off and I got my stuffed animals, AND the frog is my new best friend, he sits right on my left side incision, and I can squeeze him, and it makes me feel better. I LOVE HIM.

I am so glad to be home, I am tired, and am enjoying the uniteruppted naps, and not feeling like I am a pain to my nurse (I had horrible day nurses, and a night nurse who I adored)

SO Ihave some questions

I am having pains in my left shoulder, told the nurse and my surgeo, they siad most likely gas. Anyone else have bad pains in their shoulder?

My bowel movements, not to worried, I read a bunch of posts and know what to do if I don't have one.

How long until this left side is not killing me? Someone give me some hope, please!

The left side usually settles down in a week or so. It won't hurt as bad with each day, but there will be that lingering discomfort. Hang in there, it'll be gone before you know it.

Cari I am so glad to hear you are home and doing ok. I, like you, had the worst pain in my shoulders from gas. After about a week it went away completely. I had some chewable mylanta gas relief tab, and I even took some baby gas relief drops that actually helped ALOT! Also a heating pad on my upper back and across both shoulders helped with the shoulder pain cause I thought it would be the end of me.

And who knew passing gas would ever feel so good!

Welcome to the losers bench!

I felt immensely better after 8 days. I didn't have the shoulder pains, but I've heard several people talk about it and say it is gas. I completely understand your pain!! Watch the stuff with sugar alcohols. That will make the gas worse. (Popsicles killed me that first week.) It does get better, but I know how much you hurt!

Thanks Robin. I am going to try a heating pad tonight. I should have brought one to the hospital with me. Sometimes I think that pain was worse than the left hand side pain I have (although my DH made me laugh so hard tonight, I really thought I was going to die)
If I do not have some relief from the gas tomorrow, I will go get some baby drops. ANything to get this a stuff a moving!

Thanks Janelle

I am trying to get some protein water in today, no sugar alcohols for me right now. I have enough gas. lol I cannot wait to get this party started and feel better. I have a check up on tuesday and find out a lot of info next week. And get that drain taken out (I hate the drain). Can't wait.

I went to Walmart and bought some "Gas Relief Gel Caps" - and bit those baby's right open, swallowed, and then spit out the "gel cap" part. The pills came in a white and green package - and were the Walmart brand. The liquid inside the pills does not taste bad... just kinda like un-sweetened mint.

I'll tell ya - I took two and felt almost IMMEDIATE relief from the gas... and by that evening - the pain in my shoulders and across my back was gone.

Also - if you have a rocking chair - sit in that and rock-away...
The movement helps move the gas through (this is what they told me to do after my c-sections).

The only relief I could find until the gas medicine was laying on my sides... with a pillow under my belly to support me.

Congrats! I was back to work in a week - and you'll be surprised at how good you feel when the gas is gone. I felt like I was having a heart-attack from the pressure!!!

I had excrutiating left shoulder pain as well. The doc told me it was most likely from the position I laid on the operating table in. it went away in a few days. By the seventh day I was was totally pain free and ready to go back to work. Good luck and congrats.
