Question Alcohol afterwards

My husband and I are in a heated debate over Alcohol usage after surgery. Why do you become more intoxicated with less alcohol after surgery? Is it the size of the new pouch?Rerouted intestines?Would a pina colada count as a stage two liquid? If some one could explain why we tolerate less afterwards I would be very thankful and $10 richer.

Thanks ,Vanessa

I believe it is because of the small intestine being plumbed. We absorb alcohol much faster than before. Also, be VERY careful with pina coladas....watch the sugar content or you could end up praying to the porcelain god for a while.

I have a quick question..Can you drink Vodka or anything like that? Or will it just come right back up?

Only reason I ask is because I will be getting the surgery before I turn 21 and all my friends still expect me to drink. I was like "No, my health is way more important".

Marie,
Great link! I knew I would get tipsy faster and never be able to drink much, but it's great to know why. Thanks!!

Just like everything post op, you have to weigh the benefits and risks of what you'll eat or drink. It can be fun to have that alcohol buzz so quickly and be a cheap date. Just drink responsibly if you do decide to have a drink. All it takes is less than half a glass of wine or a half a shot of liquor and you can well be on your way to making poor choices later. Also, people tend to eat more when they drink, so it's double whammy. Pkus, since you tend to sober up faster, it's quite tempting to drink even more than you may inially plan on.
