Default Likes and dislikes with foods changing

I did low carb for a long time before my surgery so I got used to a mostly meat/egg/veggie with some fruit diet. I rarely strayed from that - which I 'm thankful it worked for pre-op dieting, but it was tough.

So now I am 6 weeks post-op and I can barely stand any meat except for maybe tilapia. Everything else I tend to avoid.

And by golly, I like broccoli now. I haven't liked broccoli, maybe ever! Not even with cheese! But it's mushy texture has made it one of my favorites as of late.

What about you guys? What are some things you just love now? I guess I'm looking for recommendations here!

I did a lot of seafood at the beginning, and still eat it often.

Crab Legs were and are my favorite. (Can I get "Hell Yeah" from Whitney?)

I've NOT been doing well with the veggies. Broccoli I eat occasionally, and I enjoy beans...but not much else. The things that I enjoy the most right now are:

Egg Drop Soup
Stir Fried Chicken and Broccoli
Spreadable Cheese and Triscuits
Reduced Fat Southwest Flavor Toaster Strudel
String Cheese
Pringle's Low Cal Pizza Flavored Wheat Sticks
Michelina's Lean Spaghetti, Macaroni, and Swedish Meatballs
Lean Cuisine Manicotti and Stuffed Shells
Wheat Toast with Peanut Butter and Sugar Free Strawberry Jelly
Sugar Free Jello mixed with FF Whipped Cream and SF Choc Syrup
Crab Legs, Shrimp, Scallops, Fish (any seafood)
Chicken and Cheese Fajitas on a Wheat tortilla
Pepper Jack Cheese
South Beach Protein Bars

That's about the gist of what I'm eating now. If anyone else looks at this and sees a problem--post something and tell me--I'm trying very hard to stick to "the plan!"

Hope this helps!

-Mike

I love Hot and Soup soup it has egg and tofu I had it 8 times this week, it's the only thing I eat that taste good to me, most other food doesn't taste good to me at all. I worry that I'm getting to much salt but I love it and it just feels good in my tummy. A couple of weeks ago I mostly had beans and cottage cheese but I think I burnt out on it because now it doesn't appeal to me at all. Chicken is the only meat I can do that doesn't make me sick. I'm not complaining it's just hard sometimes to find something that taste good and is good for me, for snacks I do a handful of almonds or peanuts. I'm not really into cheese but I do like cheese sticks I got some at Target that you put in the oven, really good, and i'll have two for dinner.

I feel your frustration over finding things to eat. Though I knew my tastes would change, it still shocked me how much. That, combined with my fear of eating the wrong things, has definitely often made me frustrated with how limited my menu options are. I will say that at 6 months out, my tastes on many things has either changed back, or just grown milder so that I don't care nearly as much. I've also branched out somewhat and can tolerate many more things than I could a few months ago.

Things I love/tolerate very well:

* Fage yogurt, with splenda and granola. I often take a Kashi TLC vanilla almond flax chewy granola bar and break it into little pieces and stir it in. Mmmm!!
* chili!
* cheeses
* shrimp (when cooked well/not rubbery)
* milk
* peanut butter on multi-grain english muffin, sometimes with sugar-free jam (though I can only eat a bit of that before I feel the effects)
* carb balance tortillas with all kinds of quesidilla or soft taco stuffings. I love it with black beans, light cheddar cheese, light sour cream, Taco Bell mild sauce, and avocado slices. Sometimes I put in chicken, too.
* turkey meatballs -- they're very soft on my pouch and it only takes 2 or 2.5 to fill me up. I add a little Ragu and parmesan cheese.
* salads, with light dressing (either some sort of vinagrette or caeser) and topped with a protein (chicken or seafood)
* salisbury steak (healthy choice frozen meal)
* nuts (can only eat a few at a time 'cause they fill me up so fast)
* My new addiction, that I need to kick!, is Trader Joe's peanut butter filled pretzels. Oh, they are so good, and meet my craving for salt, and get ground up into a super fine texture in your mouth before swallowing...Somebody pry this last bag away from me so I have no more left and can never buy them again!

Default string cheese has been a staple for me as of late

I love chili - I'd like to try that again. I haven't had any in months and months. I will give it a try :-)

I forgot to also mention, my Mom makes this veggie casserole that has mostly veggies and some low-fat mozzarella in it. It goes down pretty easy and is very satisfying for just a small portion. I highly recommend it.

At your stage I did a lot of chili, pea soup, yogurt, string cheese, cottage cheese with sugar free preserves.

Now, when I'm in a non-eating mood I still go back to the soft foods. These are some of my "comfort" foods that you should be able to do at your stage.

Fage 2% yogurt (greek yogurt) w/ orange crystal light, vanilla extract, almonds.
Cream of Wheat
Parmesan Tuna patties
Cottage Cheese pancakes
Egg custard
Berry crepes
cauliflower/chicken soup
Mexican Quiche
"Lasagna"
Creamy Tomato Soup
Holiday Nog
Greek Chicken
Cottage Cheese Oatmeal Pancakes
Tuna Salad
