Default I Don't Dump...WIll I?

I'm a little worried. The biggest problem I've had with food lately is when I ate some tuna with a ginger wasabi sauce and it made me nauseous and I threw up. And it was a little throw up, just the last bite and it was over. Two nights ago, I just couldn't stand it and I ate a Lindt truffle. I've been waiting for the payback...but there hasn't been any! Why?? Is it possible the higher grade of chocolate helped? Have you ever not dumped while eating sugar and then started to?

What was the sugar count per serving in the Lindt? Typically, people who will dump on sugar do so when they take in 20g or more at a time.

I am 10 months out and I have only vomited 4 times. Not everyone does. I wish I had more severe reactions because I think I would be more diligent.

My usual indication that I've done something wrong is I feel extremely uncomfortable for an hour or two. Lately I notice I get really tired when this happens and I can barely keep my eyes open. My "cure" when this happens is to try to be mobile, walking around seems to help me. It makes it pass faster. DH swears by jumping jacks when he gets the uncomfortable feeling.

Everyone is different when it comes to dumping and what works for you one week, may not work for you the next week.

This morning I had the smallest nibble of a sample cheese danish when I got my Latte this morning (damn Starbucks, I couldn't resist!) and I spent the next 2 hours paying for it. It was crazy because it wasn't more than a bite and it still threw my system into pandemonium. And yet the night before last I had a fairly large Starbuck's sugar cookie with M&M's and had no repercussions whatsoever.

it says 4 grams. oh! and I did try some sugar-free cake from Publix, but it really upset my tummy. Any ideas as to why if it's sugar-free?

Did the cake have malitol (sugar alcohol) in it? It can sometimes upset the stomach or cause diarrhea.

Malitol..hmm...I don't know, but I will certainly be on the look-out for it now!

Thanks David and Leslie! It really is just "one day at a time", huh?

Some people are really sensitive to sugar alcohols (even in sugar free items). Others can't handle the flour, etc.
Personally, I don't do well with any cakey-type items, they almost always make me hurt. I can tolerate sugar in dense things like cookies, chocolate and cheesecake. I can also eat crackers and chips, but can't eat bread without feeling discomfort. It seems like the more flaky or airy the consistency is, the worse my system tolerates it.

Most sugar-free cakes, cookies, and candies will contain some form of sugar alcohol. Each of us will have our own tolerance to it.

And as I've been told before about this surgery, "this isn't a 100 yard dash, it's a marathon"

Default 5 grams is our limit per the NUT

Hi September,

Was interested in your thread because I haven't tested the limits of my pouch yet and don't know if I will dump. My NUT said that the sugar content couldn't be over 5 grams per OUR serving. So not dumping on the candy with 4 grams doesn't necessarily mean you wouldn't dump if you ate more. I do have a friend that I work with that doesn't dump at all. Personally, I hope I do so it will keep from those evil sugar demons. BTW - you have a beautiful voice...and I am sure I've heard you before, too. What an interesting job! I bet you have lots of fun doing what you do!

A~

i buy sugar free cookies because of my "addiction" of that stuff but never found a sugar free cake WHERE is that slice of heaven?

I havent really ventured into regular cookies / candies because all that was my weakness before surgery and i dont want to risk it. HOWEVER, i dump on 1 too many cheetoe's or even those baked veggie crackers. I have no clue why but i do so i can only eat like 6 of them.

to be honest i wouldnt even get used to not "dumping" on those candies because you'd be picking up a bad habit and we know from the past we really cant do that
