Default Tougher Day for SWMBO

This Open RNY stuff pretty much sucks. SWMBO had a tougher one today. Pain at the incision has increased, They removed the PCA around 11:00 AM after Sandy passed the Swallow test. They also took out the foley catheter (yeah) but the doctor really did not want it out. Sandy has had problems evacuating, and as of this evening, they did a bladder scan (been there) and put a bolus in her (done that).

They are giving her the loritab blast every 4 hours supplemented by 2 mg of Morphine as necessary at the 2 hour point between blasts. Pray that she gets her bladder going and that the pain decreases from the incision site.

She is walking well, BP is up a little (probably the pain). I am surprised, she is not sleeping the way I did, but she is moving forward. She did ask me to thank you all for the kind words and thoughts. She appreciates them and you all so much. Have a great night.

Wow! They already took out her PCA and her catheter? Bummer. I had a hard time "going" after I had the catheter out too. I had to be straight cathed once. I hope she feels better soon.

I'm sorry to hear of Sandy's pain and misery! sounds like she's got a positive attitude... not much you can do but get through it! Each day should be a little better... more hugs to her!

Poor SWMBO. Hugs and happiness and prayers for peeing. I remember being sooooooo swollen in the hospital that I gained 18 lbs while I was in the hospital from all the fluid. I hope she has better luck and doesn't need to be re-cathed.

I hope she starts feeling better soon.

When I first started looking into WLS, I went to a seminar at a local hospital, and the surgeon only did the open procedure. When it was time for the Q & A and I asked about it, he glossed over it, acting like it was no big deal. I'm so glad I followed my instincts and stayed away from him. If you have complications and have no choice about it that's one thing, but to do it open voluntarily? Yikes!
