Default Frustrated with what I can (can't) eat....

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...............

I am almost 3 weeks out. I am drinking protein shakes and eating eggs and having my yougart and my pudding but I am now where near where I need to be with Protein.

All of the yummy pre-surgery shakes make me throw up now so I am left with the same shake every day and I am BORED. Isn't that awlful? I need the food to be alive and not malnourshed and I hate to eat now. Clearly, I never disliked eating before or I would have never gotten so big.

Thankfully, I have not gotten on a scale and won't until March 24th for my 1 mo. followup.

I am frustrated. I wish they could do GB on the brainwhen they are doing it on the stomach. It would make eating easier.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Jeanette tomorrow is my FIVE weeks, and I am fighting the same fight... I am not getting my protein in and I know it's going to come back to bite me! I did find "New Whey" vials at Vitamin World... it's a syrupy liquid - but can add it to my water and get in 42 g. protein with my liquids. That's taken a lot of pressure off me. I've just added "Laughing Cow" little cheese wedges (2 g. protein)... soft and flavorful...

Just remember this is TEMPORARY and you CAN DO IT... "WE" can do it! Next week at my 6 wk appt., I expect the reins to be cut loose and add more variety into my food plan... we will see!

Default it gets so much better after the liquids

I went through it too. I would actually get kind of sad when my family sat down for dinner, so for a while I just couldn't sit down with them. Everything is starting to get better now and I'm just a month and 10 days out.

Hang in there! :-)

you can do it! i had the same problem with protein but now Syntrax Nectar (stawberry kiwi) is my best friend! i drink about 3 scoops a day for a total of 69grams protein sometimes i'll do 4 scoops and i tell ya i've hit plateaus and then up'd my protein and wella it helps get me going again.

food is boring now too, but i have my days that i really miss the fattening stuff my doc says dont worry about eating the protein as much as you must get the protein fluid in you (more that way) hang on girl you'll make it

It takes time. You just have to keep trying to get in as much protein shakes as you can or getting protein from foods you can eat at your current phase.
It'll get easier...for sure.

Oh I most certainly remember those days. I often would get so frustrated that all I wanted to do was pick up my plate and throw it against the wall. I didn't but it was just SO MUCH WORK to eat!! So just to let you know what you are feeling is so totally normal. But the bright spot is that it does get better. It takes a lot of time, patience and trial and error but it gets better. Like I tell so many new preops, there is a HUGE learning curve with this surgery. It isn't easy. Some days will be good and then you may have several bad ones but eventually there will be more good than bad.

Keep trying new things until you find that magic thing that works for you. For me it was pea soup, yogurt and chili. I lived on those for weeks and weeks. When I wasn't doing well that's what I would go back to. Now at 2 years postop I still have my "safe foods"....my comfort foods. They aren't anything like they used to be though....the big one now is Cream of Wheat, a custard I make and ricotta cheese with marinara. *L*...funny how things change.

Yum, I love Laughing Cow cheese. I eat it on Trisquits, w.w. bagels, etc. If you go to Sam's Club, look for it there. A 3 pack is only about $7...way cheaper than the grocery store.

I'm loving the Isopure Fruit Punch for my protein. 40g per bottle! And it tastes just like Koolaid (to me). My wife needs to dilute it a bit with water as it tastes too sweet for her, but I like it fine without. A nice big glass with lots of ice makes getting your protein very refreshing!

It might be worth a try. You can find them at GNC, among other places.

Wendy's Chili and store bought roast beef hash are my staples right now.

There will be people who won't agree with what I have to say but I think that maybe you may be stressing out too much over not being to get in all of your protein. You are only 3 weeks out, not 3 months. Your pouch is still healing and of course you aren't going to be able to finish a big ole shake.

I was never able to do protein shakes and eggs made me horribly sick the first couple of months. Instead I concentrated on eating what I could, walking and being as active as possible, getting in as much fluid as possible, and taking my vitamins. To be perfectly honest it was probably a good 3 months before I was able to get in the full 50 grams of protein my doctor suggested.

I also stressed that I wasn't getting enough protein and was afraid I was going to be malnourished but then I figured, hey, do what I can, eat what I can, and make protein my focus at meals and if I have to eat cheese every couple of hours so be it. I was fine and my labs have always been fine.

I too was bored by what I could eat...I started experimenting with foods that had protein. I made little noodleless lasagna, blended cottage cheese w/tuna (sounds gross but is good), made my own ceviche (there's an awesome recipe somewhere on here), and mixed 1/4 cup of yogurt together with cottage cheese (boosts the protein level but is sweet), and I melted a stick a string cheese in the microwave with lemon pepper. All were soft food and allowed at the early stages.

Anyway, I hope these suggestions are helpful. Good luck to you.

I have had the same struggles and bought the New Whey vials in orange. They are a godsend! Before those, I didn't know how I was going to make it. And my drill sergeant sister wasn't helping! My doctor requires 60 g of protein, and there was just no way.

I'm on the prowl for good broth now. I'm sick of sweet. Maybe I can add some unflavored protein to the broth.

But, I hear ya, loud and clear!
