Default Buzzed / Faint Feeling...

Hi Folks...

I haven't talked much about any complications because I really haven't had much so far, but when I look at what others are considering complications, well, I've had my share I guess: dumping (only a couple times), chest pain if the pouch is too full, plateaus, back pain, eye issues...nothing too tragic, though I lean toward the dramatic for increased sympathy from my wife. It doesn't work.

That said, I've noticed an increase in this "feeling" that I get at least once a day. I haven't really seen anyone discuss it on the forum, so I thought I'd throw it out there. Virtually every afternoon the last couple of weeks, and sometimes twice a day, I get this feeling that is sort of a cross between feeling faint and feeling buzzed. Sometimes, it's uncomfortable, but it's largely just a nuisance. The last few days, there have been a couple of occasions where I started to lose my balance but caught myself before I fell.

Has anybody dealt with this? I largely am still doing what the doctor said as far as diet. I could exercise more, but get to the gym at least 2 times a week, sometimes 3. I eat a pretty high protein diet but have a few carbs here and there: wheat toast in the morning occasionally, triscuits or wheat thins for lunch, occasional pasta if I eat a freezer meal. I'm not eating the exact same things every day and get in roughly 1200-1500 calories, which includes 60-80g of protein and between 64-100oz. of fluids.

Before I mention this to the DR., anybody have a clue? I just went to the DR. a couple of weeks ago and everything was fine...I hate to go back in and say, "Oh, yeah, I forgot this one little thing."

-Mike

I've been experiencing something similar for the past couple of weeks. Prior to surgery, I suffered from mild anxiety and I stopped taking the Xanax I was prescribed about two weeks post surgery. Everything was fine for a couple of months, until just recently. I've been faint and foggy-headed, which feels like I'm outside of my body sometimes. I went to my PCP and had a full panel lab done and everything was okay, so he put me on fluoxetine, which is making me worse than I already was. I am calling tomorrow to get switched back to Xanax. As far as what caused it, I have no idea either. I hit my numbers every day, not overly stressed, and not depressed at all. My PCP had me come back in and pulled more blood for a testosterone level check. I was borderline before surgery and he's concerned that I might be low now and suffering from a hormonal imbalance. Waiting on those results.

Mike - you have me worried... worried about you and worried about ME!

YOU: I think it bears (lol - "bears") calling the doctor and having him check it out. It is not normal - there is something odd going on in your body! Maybe it's the pounds dropping off???!!!!

ME: I am not eating as well as you - I am NOT getting in my protein or water... so I wonder what I'm doing to myself here. I did go to GNC and Vitamin World today --- GNC was zero help... found some good folks at VW... i bought some New Whey Liquid Protein 3.1 oz. vials to try... hoping they will work for me... 42 g. protein! I'm pretty sick of vanilla and chocolate and pudding consistency things... hoping the "Fruit Punch" goes ok...

Keep us posted and call your doctor tomorrow... or I'll tell your mom!!! (and Liz!)

Mike, I used to have the same feelings. I really don't think they are real uncommon. For me it seemed to be related to eating. I didn't always get them but certain foods almost gave me a "buzzed" feeling. I always thought it was a mild form of dumping. It wasn't always right after I ate either. Sometimes it was like an hour or so. I almost wonder if it had to do with the food kind of dumping into my system. Does it seem to happen after you eat?

Now I've heard other people complain of the same symptoms and they found if they ate a little something it helped. It seemed to be somewhat of a blood sugar thing.

Another thing would be dehydration but it seems like you are getting in your fluids so I doubt that is it.

I sometimes think, at least for me it was my body just adjusting to a difference in my digestion after surgery. My intestines didn't quite know how to handle the change of absorption and it wasn't working quite as effectively. Over time those feelings have gone away but DH most certainly had a laugh more than once when I told him I was getting buzzed on food. Most certainly a cheap drunk...I didn't even need the alcohol to get a buzz!

Mike,

Not going to be much help to you. But just wanted to let you know I've experienced a "dizziness" on occassion and I'm sure it's because of low-blood pressure (my doc and I are in the process of weaning me off of the medication).

I think it is definitely something to call your doctor about...don't worry about bothering him/her...'cause they'll charge you anyway, so it's not a freebie! LOL

I’m only 6 weeks out so not to much help, but I have felt dizzy 2 times since surgery and both times it was when I over ate. It was about half hour after and I was feeling uncomfortable because of the food and then I just felt weird like I was going to faint. It went away after a few minutes but it made me nervous. I say for me it was when I went from eating 5 small meals to 3 meals. I was trying to get what I needed in 3 meals but it didn’t work to much at once and I felt uncomfortable. I went back to 5 small meals and so far so good.

I had these bouts when I was a few months post op. It was low blood pressure. It was mostly upon rising. I'd get lightheaded, feel kinda trippy, dizzy, and just out of body sorta. It was transitory, went on for a few weeks (I think...it's been awhile). I can't tell you THE WHY it happens, but I can say that my blood pressure has remained very healthy. There was a time it was really low, but the doctors said that was okay. I think it was like 58/90 or something. Don't know if you're having the same thing of course, but it sounded familiar when I read your question. Hope it stops soon. It bugged me a lot.

Mike,

I get the same and have not been able to put my finger on it yet, usually with me though, it happens at the end of the evening, so I guess it could be tiredness.

The Doc has taken bloods and they have all come back normal, including the LFT. I dip my own urine and that is normal. He wants me to do a Thyroid test, but I am not sure what that will prove. My BP is normal and my resting pulse is around 60. Also the thumb prick test for Diabetes shows normal. It is anoying the hell out of me.

I have been very lucky (apart from early on where I have had Clostridium Difficile courtesy of the NHS and two blockages), my weight has dropped off and I have been feeling very fit (Fit enough to march round Pen-Y-Fan for PT at work before Christmas). But this has me licked.

Keep your chin up mate, as soon as I get to the bottom of this I will let you know.

Danny

PS. Looking at your before and now pics - looking good mate.

This is quite spooky .... for the past 2 weeks I have been experiencing similar issues, I spoke to my nutritionist on Friday and she suggested having my BP checked which I will do today. I have an underactive thyroid but had that checked 2 weeks ago and came back normal. I couldn't make a doctors appointment so had to see a nurse so not sure if this will help any.

It started a couple of weeks ago, sometimes it's food related either right after eating or a little while after eating - no matter what I have eaten. I start off feeling fuzzy in my head like extreme tiredness then feel warm - my cheeks go red. Then I get slight or major headaches and a lightheaded feeling whether I am stood up or resting, if I do stand up especially quickly I get a blood rushing feeling to my head and feel very dizzy, loose my balance temporally and have to hang on to something or else I might fall over. I have noticed if I get stressed or rush about too much this makes it much worse.

At first I thought it was a cold or flu bug, then maybe because I was tired but I am getting 7hrs + sleep a night. Like all of you I am eating well and drinking lots. I do tend to drink more tea than water but about a week ago I switched to more water to see if it made a difference but it hasn't.

I was told by my nutritionist that if my blood pressure comes back normal then I need to go and see my consultant .... we shall see in 2 hrs time :/
