Default How long does food stay in the system

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this. I have not used the restroom in a few days and I verily eat but I finally was given something to keep food in and had some egg and some yogart one day not even a whole servine maybe .5 of one of the 5 oz containers. I had some water stay in finally and some mashed potatoes. Now I know what you are thinking... These are not allowed... Well when you puke everything up... Soft foods are ok in my book no matter what they are. At least it stayed in ok it was only 4 bites but it was something. My fear is I have gained 12 lbs in a week. Whick is not a good thing but since I lost 20 in the last 2 it is not the worste thing in the world if I am a little behind. What I am worried about is not going potty. I know it is not our favorite subject but does anyone have any ideas how long the food is going to stay in. I was at least going everyday when I was not eating anything but now I am on day 4 maybe I have tinkled 3 times but not once have I actually gone. (even with the colace.) Someone help me understand this.

I have not had the scope yet. it is scheduled for tuesday now. they wanted to do three transfusions of vitamines and electrolights first so I let them. two of the ivs only lasted an hour but the last one lasted all day. I hate this! I am starting to wish I had not done it. I want to say that is not the case but it is definately the case. I am sick all the time and getting weaker. Now I am concerned. I went three days with no tinkle then 2 yesterday no tinkle today and no actually restroom use Yet. I am breaking the rules and drinking a few sips of apple juice. That used to wrok as a kid. I am not suposed to have it but since I only drink a few sips before I give it back I am starting not to care.

Given your date of surgery and what you said above, you need to call/see your surgeon asap.

The very best to you - please keep us posted!

I NEED A BREAK. First it is vomiting and diaharia and now this. I can not take any more! The docs go from here to there in a blink of an eye. Thanks everyone for the support but this is really on my last nerve. How can I finally eat and nothing come out? When I ate nothing I had more return then this.

H&P ~

My main concerns are these:

1. Only going pee/tinkle 3 times in FOUR days!!
2. A major weight gain (12 lbs) with very little food or water intake.

Doesn't concern me that you're not having had a BM, if nothing goes in, nothing comes out. I used to go 2 times a day (I know TMI!) and post-op I go every 2 days or there abouts. I have heard that sometimes your intestines (?) get sluggish...I'd definitely call your doctors and explain the lack of urine! Possibly being dehydrated??? Good luck and please, please keep us posted!

And I agree...if mashed potatoes give you some nourishment...so be it! That food was okayed once I was on pureed foods.

Sorry you're having such a terrible time post surgery.

I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time. I'm really worried about you! Since my time here on the board I don't think I've seen anyone who has had as bad a time post-op as you have. I know that's not helpful, but I'm just so worried! I hate to tell you this, but I really think you need to go back to the doctor again. 12 pound weight gain post-op is not normal or good! Your body is telling you something is wrong. Again, I'm so sorry, and I really hope you can get this figured out. Please keep posting updates on your progress.
