Default Glue vs. Stitches....

hi everyone!

im preop, but wanted to ask all of you postop-ers a question. did your doctor use glue instead of stitches for your incisions? mine is, and i was wondering if you knew any pros or cons about it. thanks for the help!

My surgeon closed my incisions with glue. I have had two c-sections prior to my bypass surgery those were closed with staples. I have found that with staples I am prone to having infections (not sure if I have reactions to the metal or not). I had my gastric bypass procedure done on February 29th and my wounds look great and are healing wonderfully!

Neither... I had staples. I had no problems with them and I can't even see my scars anymore.

I was stitched on the inside with dissovable stitches, and they used "steri-strips" on the outside... those fell off after a couple of days... the scars are looking good!

Default Dermabond

I had the Dermabond glue on my little laparoscopic incisions, and they're doing great. The only problem I've had was bleeding last week from the larger incision (about 2" long) where they pulled out the unused part of my stomach (I had the VSG, not RNY) - the surgeon said it was normal draining (it was pretty badly bruised around the incision) and not to worry. The draining stopped after a couple of days and everything is looking good...

I was also stitched on the inside and then steri-strips. I took those off after they had been on a couple weeks and still holding tight. They itched and drove me crazy so off they came! *L* I did have one minor infection under one of the steri strips. One of the reasons I took it off. I got on some antibiotics, put a little dressing over it with antibiotic ointment and it healed up nicely.

Default Glues sound a litte scarry.

Your surgeon/Dr. must feel some confidence with this usage of glue. However with my own experience and that of another poster who did use glue, I had the usual closures I would want the conventional method used that has been proven to work over the periods of time.
Talk to you Dr and feel out where he is coming from with his thinking about his proceedures for you.
You make the final decisions after you investigate.
Good Luck
