Smile chest pain?

I was wondering if anyone can relate to the chest pain that I am having whenever I eat or drink, especially first thing in the morning. I spoke to my Doctor and he said to try pepcid, tums and see if that helps. I've tried this and it works sometimes but not always. Milk also seems to help sometimes. It has been going on for about a month now...he said if it persists for another couple weeks or so to call him again. It hurts so bad sometimes that I just grab my chest...it is like the worst heart burn ever....can anyone else relate and what helped you out....

Thanks to all of you for your input....I know you are all mostly out west but I found your site and really enjoy reading how everyone is doing...it is nice to see that I am not alone!!

Default Chest Pain

Stampintilldawn,

The pain.. is it in the center of your chest just below the breast bone? If so it is probably the acid from your pouch causing you much discomfort. I had the same thing, and still get it if I am not taking my acid blockers.. I have an ulcer.. so I suggest you take your acid blockers as prescribed.. I'd hate anyone else to go thru this if they don't have to. Some of us are just acid producing fools.. and I was told I would be on the acid blockers for the rest of my life.. If it is just a sharp pain when you eat or drink you may be drinking too fast? Or eating too big a bite? Otherwise if none of these symptoms seem to be what you are experiencing .. then please do check with your Doctor. Now if you start feeling the pain radiate down your arm.. then call 911. If you have difficulty breathing as well.. call 911 it could be a more serious problem.

Good luck to you and let us know how you are feeling..

Christina, Thank you so much for the information...my doctor actually did mention that it may be an ulcer causing the chest pain...how did they diagnose your ulcer, was there a specific test or just over time it was determined that is what was causing the pain. Thanks for the info!!!

Default You're quite welcome

Stampintilldawn,

My Doctor had a theory that I had an ulcer for months but until I had Insurance all he could do is treat it as if that is what it was. When I got Insurance I was referred to a GI Doc and I had an endoscopy (No big deal) See my thread under "I got scoped" or something like that.. anyway it turned out that Dr. Callery was correct and I did have an Ulcer. I hope that you feel better soon..

Let me know if you have any more questions..

I find that I get pain in the chest region if I eat too much or do not chew well enough. Early post op it was in the left upper part of the chest. Now it can be there or lower and to the right.

Make sure to slow down and chew really well. That might help.

Good luck to ya!!
