Default Has something bad happened?

Sat night I went to a BBQ and ate five bites of steak and about a 1/2 cup of potatoes... also a few green beans. This is well over 3 or 4 oz. or the five bites or so I've been told I should be eating still. Yesterday I ate a chicken thigh, a few bites of steak, and a few veggies. Today I pushed it to see how much I could eat. A bowl of cereal and I didn't get overly full. What's wrong? Why can I eat so much and why am I not getting sick? I'm only 7 months out.

Your pouch is relaxing and food is passing through easier. The honeymoon period is coming to an end. But....you need to realize that you're not eating nearly as much as you did before surgery. This is the time that you remember the pouch rules. Eat healthy. Meat and veggies are good choices. Don't try to see how much you can eat. Eat until you're satisfied, not stuffed. Don't try to eat sugary junk just to see if you'll dump. Assume that you will. If you have any questions about the quantity that you can eat, please call your doctor. I'm sure they'll tell you that you're doing fine. Is the scale still moving down? Remember to measure yourself. I'm sure you're dropping inches. Exercise and make good choices, and you'll be fine.

At 6 months, I started being able to eat more in quantity per sitting and I see that as the pouch matures, we are all eating more. It is so scary. I try and concentrate on filling up with protein and veggies. Carbs just make me hungry and they just don't stick.

Default ohhh sick

about 30 min after all that cereal I felt so full and yucky. Not neccesarrily nauseous, but I don't want that paticular cereal ever again! I'm just so dissapointed that I'll have to start ruling my own portions instead of my body forcing me to do it right. At least I've cemented a good exercise habit already. Now I have to learn the eating part. I know we've all talked about snaking before and that this is BAAADDDD, but what about meal portions? If I'm eating protien, veggies, and very few carbs one to three times a day then there is no WAY I'll be able to eat enough to get back to where I was right? The key is to confine it to healthy meals right? That's not so hard...... right?

My hubby has kept his weight off for over 3 years now and he doesn't think about how much to eat anymore. It becomes second nature after you've developed the habits. He orders full sizes of everything and just simply stops when he's satiated, which is still way less than half of any order. Every once in the while, he'll forget to chew or take that extra bite and it causes him pain or nausea.

Botchy,

You are right, it is up to you now to control your portions. A bowl of cereal and a few bites of steak really isn't all that much. The actual goal for the amount of food intake, is one and a half cups, 12 ounces. That is a can of soda, full of food, three times a day. That will never get ya back your weight, now those "snakes", well they slither down very easy, and yes you and everyone else have the potential to gain our weight back. We have to use the pouch rules and maintain our own weight. We have the tool.

Dale was right, the honeymoon is coming to the end. The pouch is healed, and now has the ability to hold more, and you can tolerate more.

Good Luck, and hugs,

Traci
