Default Well at least now we know what is wrong...

So for all of those who have been praying for me to get somewhere with this crack head of a doc, today I did.

After 8 weeks of throwing up three times a day, passing out, losing my vision at night, nasia, dizzyness, migrains, and numbness in my lower abdomen along side burning nerves in my hips and the inability to maintain a normal day, my doctor tried for the last time to tell me it was all caused by nerves. After 6 weeks of blowing me off and telling me it was all in my head, ( to which I said no it is in the bowl next to me - my lunch that was) I finally snapped when I told the doctor that while only one of the 13 incisions had not healed it was the one that was still dark colored that was causing me the stabbing pain in my side. The doc to which replied that it had nothing to do with my surgery was taken back when I dropped my dress and my panties and said if this is not from the surgery what is it?

I was informed that it was a freckle. yes you heard me a 2 inch dark black freckle conviently growing on top of my incision. This made no sence to me so standing there naked, I started to scream at the top of my lungs to see the head of surgery. I was not taking this anymore. The head of surgery heard me and came in. When he saw me standing there I thought he was going to faint. He asked me what was wrong and I told him of my symptoms and how I had been informed that it was all in my head. I told him of everything about how the doctor had not sent in my disability papers so I am in jepordey of losing my home and my car. I told him about how I was struggling to maintain a sain level of energy. How I was in so much pain I have not slept in 5 days and how 6 weeks ago what was a 2 inch incision with lack of sensation has now become a full blown problem with a loss of feeling half the time on my abdomen and burning sensations on my hip to the point that I can not even lay in bed anymore. I broke down.

He looked at me and said arn't you the one that woke up puking blood and was taken right back in? I said yes. He had been there for the 4th surgery after I had been through the ringer and back. He immediately started ordering tests and scans. He informed me that with me throwing up the vitamines the food and the water there was a change I have been suffering from malnutrition this entire time. He says the blood work that was never submitted to the lab and never tested would have shown that but someone dropped the ball 4 weeks ago when it was ordered. In addition, the body only holds a weeks worth of thyamin and without it the body can not proccess the other nutrients I need. It would explain the dizzyness and the eye problems. As for the nerve damage it is a side effect of my liver shutting down and how carrying the B12 through my bodyis not possible without both protien and a functioning liver. Of course your pancrease makes up for part of it but since they had to cut out part of that as well. I am up a creek and the paddle has convieniently floated away.

So tomoarrow I am off again. A MRI, Ultrasound, and nerological tests. 8 more vials of blood and the head of surgery warned me that I should pack now cus he expects me to be admitted by the end of the week.

What frusterates me more then anything is that I actually complained about this problem 6 weeks ago. i did the blood work 4 weeks ago and it was never sent to the lab. I did a digestive tracking and it was never reviewed (conviently misplaced so here we go again on wednesday to do it all over.) I have been saying this is wrong for sometime. I asked for a copy of my chart and was told that I had to wait till they were done with it. I then requested it again and was informed that it was missing the notes from the post surgical stay the first time when I woke up vomitting blood. There are no notes from the second surgery. When I asked about these I was told they had not been filed yet. How is that possible when it has been 3 months. I was suposed to go back to work on Monday but that is not happening. At this rate I am going to lose my house, my car and my sanity waiting for them to find something.

So they come back in and tell me that they think that my periphial nerves are damaged from the shut down of my liver which may have been caused by malnutrition but is now a semi perminent thing and if I do not get it under control I could lose the feeling in both legs. This is insane. Sorry I just needed to vent.

Wow, sorry to hear all this, but kudos for sticking up for yourself and getting the help you need. Hard to believe that Peripheral Neuropathy is one of the most prevalent side affects in WLS, and it seems to still go unnoticed.

I hope you now get the help you need. Hang in there.

Holy Crap!

It takes a lot of guts to whip off your clothes and start screaming...you are my HERO! How many of us just sit back and let things happen because we believe in the people who are supposed to be helping us? We put our deepest trust in the people who are supposed to be helping us and I think most of the time things work like they should. But when they don't, and we know things are not working, it takes a lot of balls to make them see what you're going through. Even if you end up in the hospital, it will be well worth it to get back on track with your health!

I am so impressed with your bravery. I read your post out loud to my wife and she is applauding you too! I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you'll be back to as close to normal as you can get very soon!

You keep giving them hell, sister--you're kicking butt and taking names!

I'm proud of ya!

-Mike

I am stunned. I cannot believe your doctor allowed this to happen. Big shout out to you for standing up for yourself.

I'm so sorry for you. What a big mess! Good for you standing up for yourself. Hopefully they can get you better soon without any residual problems. Can someone from the docs office send in the papers for the disability and fix that at all?

Wow, I'm kind of speechless here. So proud of you for putting your foot down and demanding answers. It's sad that there are times it has to come to that but who better to watch out for us than ourselves. I sure hope you will get the royal treatment that you deserved weeks and weeks ago.
