Default Day 10 - Gout Attack Update

Hi all, sorry I haven't posted in awhile - I've been mostly bed-bound with the delightful gout attack. He're the latest:

Walgreens took a couple of days to get in the liquid Indocin. When my mother went to pick it up for me, the pharmacist told her to tell me that she strongly advised me NOT to take it, especially while I am on Coumadin and still recovering post-op, because the risk of hemorrhage is simply too great.

Soooo, not knowing what I could take to alleviate the horrible pain and inflammation, I got an appointment with my rheumatologist's PA. She was able to give me a shot of Prednisone that has helped somewhat. She told me that the steroid DosPak that my rheumatologist had prescribed, which my surgeon didn't want me to take, would likely cause bleeding on contact with my new Sleeve, so the injection was far safer than the oral dose. She and the rheumatologist agreed with the pharmacist that I should absolutely not take liquid Indocin while on Coumadin.

Although the rheumatologist said that he didn't want me going off Allopurinol again after having gone on, then off, then on again in such a short time, the PA opined that the Allopurinol had likely contributed to the flare-up, especially because of the trauma to my body post-surgery, and that normally, you have to stop taking Allopurinol during a flare-up because it will actually make a gout attack worse. I have decided to stop taking it until I am completely sympom free, which the PA said is the normal recommendation during a gout attack...

Apart from that, I am doing well - I am now able to drink 128 oz. (1 gallon) of water per day and am definitely losing weight...

I Went Through The Exact Same Thing. My Gout Came Back About Once A Week Through The First Two Months -I Could Not Walk. When You Lose
The Amount Of Weight We Lose We Also Lose Muscle. When Muscle Is Broken Down By The Body It Is Turned Into Peptides (protein).which Is Turned Into Amino Acids Then Uric Acid. When We Lose That Amount Of Muscle It Is Like A Flood Of Uric Acid Which Has No Where To Go And Forms Crystals In The Joints. Which Is Gout. Good News Is This Will Be Your Last Battle With Gout. Bad News It Can Last Months And Will Be The Worst Episodes Ever.
I Had Bypass And Could Take Prednisone Even Though It Slowed My Weightloss And Probably Isn't The Best Thing For My Liver -It Helped Within
Hours And Stopped My Rapid Muscle Loss. I Feel For You- I Actually Cried
From The Pain And Helpless Feeling I Had. It Took Weeks To Get A Med That Worked For Me. Allapurinol- Every Time I Tried To Use It I Had The Worst Attack Ever B/c I Always Had Symptoms Of Gout. I Have Been Gout Free
For About A Month Now And I Am Very Happy About That.
I Hope You Find What Works For You And Sorry For Babbling.
Good Luck

Fingers crossed that you'll be on top of this soon Eric.

Great on the gallon of water! You must be sloshing when you walk!
