Question Dumping?

Hi, all.

Another question. I haven't yet had the experiance of "dumping" (knock on wood!!!), as you all have described it. But today, I came home and "thought" I was hungry, and I think I ate a little too much. But instead of being nauseous or vomiting, I fell asleep for about 3 hours. Is this something that can happen with overeating too?

Just checking to see if anyone else has had this experience or not. Thanks

Default Anne,

Yes, this has happened to me too. My first experience was with Soup Plantation.

Default Dumping

Dumping is a syndrome that is brought on by eating something high (or too high) in sugars or carbohydrates. You do not "dump" on eating too much, you make yourself miserable that way. I still do that.. when I eat too much it is off to bed to sleep it off. That is not actually dumping. Dumping comes form your blood sugars getting too elevated which happens due to the malabsorption process that we go through due to the surgery. I have dumped a couple of times over stupid stuff that I did. Trust me it is a lot different that having to take a nap. Overeating causes you to feel miserable and need to sleep.

Hope this helps clarify things for you.. good luck to you all..

Thumbs up

Vanessa,

I am actually feeling great!! I had a little problem with sciatica for a few days (not related to the surgery), but that's much better now. Luckily, I haven't dumped at all. I'm actually a little worried that I can eat some sugar without feeling bad. I had a bowl of instant oatmeal w/maple, and didn't realize it had about 12 gms of sugar. I mean, it was organic and all that!! I was eating potatos when I think I ate too much and fell asleep.

But really, I'm still a little sore from the incision up at the top, and I still have a little trouble getting out of bed sometimes (soreness on that left side). I've been trying to walk a little everyday, but I need to do that more.

I'm taking off 4 weeks from work. Besides recovering from the surgery, I just needed some time off. I was going insane the last few weeks at work and I just want to relax awhile. I also want time to figure out how and what to eat, so when I go back to work, it won't be any big deal.

Thanks for asking, and let me know how you're doing. It's nice to talk with someone at the same stage as I am.

Vanessa~
What kind of soup did you dump on? I couldn't have cream soups with any milk....I had to mix them with water or I would dump. Bean and bacon soup made me sooooo ill and I think the sugar content in tomatoe soup was too much for me at first.

Thanks, Christina,

Luckily, I have not "dumped" yet. Now I'm just watching so I don't overeat. I don't think my boss would appreciate that at work.
