Day 5 Post-Op and Doing Well
It's Day 5 and I'm feeling good. I've steadily increased my water consumption and, yesterday, I got all the required 64 oz., plus a bit more. It's definitely getting easier. I've also been getting in my required two vials of Profect each day as well, and am having an easier time with each vial. Still despise the taste, though...
I tried some more sugar free cherry Jell-O this morning, just to see if I would hate it as much as I did yesterday, and I did. I'll move on to the other 15 flavors currently residing in my refrigerator to see if there's something I can actually stand now that I'm post-op...
For all who are curious, my surgeon puts all of his patients (VSG, RNY, and Lap Band) on the same very conservative post-op diet, so I'm not doing anything differently from what I would have done with the RNY. The first three weeks are clear liquids (water, Profect or Isopure, clear broth, and sugar free Jell-O only - no sugar free popsicles permitted), but I am permitted to add a soft-cooked egg for one meal each day starting on Day 14. My surgeon requires no more than three meals (and less if we're not hungry) per day, with no snacking whatsoever, a prohibition that also includes flavored beverages between meals. I will start taking vitamins on Day 14 as well.
At three weeks out, I will begin drinking a protein shake (minimum 30-35 g protein) for each of two meals, with my third meal being 1 or 2 oz. of low sugar, high protein foods, especially those that are liquid or semi-liquid at room temperature, such as nonfat cottage cheese, lowfat yogurt, and soups such as miso, egg drop, lentil, split pea, or black bean. During Weeks 3 - 6, I will be gradually transitioning to more solid foods, such as eggs, low-fat or nonfat string cheese, tofu, refried beans, and soft, moist chicken, turkey, and fish. I hated eggs and seafood pre-op, so it will be interesting to see whether my changing tastes make these foods more palatable when I'm ready for them...
I've been getting in good walks in the neighborhood, trying to get up to five walks per day, and am still sipping, walking, resting, and repeating...

Eric... you're amazing! I can't get out to walk the neighborhood... the streets are all snow, ice and slush! Hard to picture anything else.
When is your post-op exam? 2 or 3 weeks out?
Your surgeon is very strict! I suppose I could play by his rules, but have been enjoying my more liberal path! Hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the butt!
Glad to hear from you --- now, where are the photos of you and Valentino on the 13th?

More power to you!!
Boy, that seems difficult! I don't think I could have waited 3 weeks to have some form of real food. But if I had to...then I would have done it! Definitely follow YOUR doctors specific instructions!
Sounds as if you are doing great. Regarding the jello...prior to surgery I just loved jello...so of course I bought alot of the pre-made packets...well, guess what??? I don't like jello now, or pudding either. Kind of makes me gag.
Keep up the fantastic job...I bet you'll lose so much weight for the first week!!! I'm excited for you...keep us posted!

Sounds like you're doing great Eric. As typical, the diets do sound restrictive, but I think when most people follow them, they end up with fewer issues later on.
I was never much of a seafood fan myself, but I just love shrimp now. I eat them at least five times a week, along with scallops, and crab. Great protein resource.

It's great to hear you sounding so upbeat Eric.
Yeah - your surgeon does have some strict rules but they're for a reason.
Sending you gentle hugs sweetheart.

Hi Eric,
I haven't been on regularly so I didn't realize your time had come already. I know its been a long time coming...after what happened with your first doctor. Congratulations on getting your WLS done....I don't know anything really about the VSG...but am so happy for you. I hope your recovery is going well. I am relieved you are home and on your way. YAY!!!!
