Default Never loose sight

I think all of us have heard the story from others.. “I have a friend who has a sister that had gastric bypass she lots a ton of weight but now shes gained it all back” Then you go to your support groups (if you have one you go to) and you see all the people who have started to gain and you wonder just what went wrong.. until the day it happens to you....

Now some of you know I followed the book, if there was one lol. For over one year I refused to add some things into my diet. I got rid of carbonated beverages and still haven’t had one to date.. (don’t think I ever will) I refused to have any bread, pasta, potatoes.. mostly any starch or carb. I did however have some complex carbs once I started to run and work out. I drank water.. I never drink with my meal. I work out 3 days a week with a personal trainer I run 4 days a week. So what happened last week when I realized I put on.. TA DAAA… EIGHT POUNDS!!
I had a little bit of a melt down and freaked out lol. It all started about a month ago when I started to experiment with yummy foods I have kept far far away from. I realized… bread tastes really GOOD! I forgot.. lol I thought that since I still have small portions I could eat really anything and be safe .. I mean I am still busting my butt in the gym and running .. of course I can have anything I like! WRONG
Now.. there are more things involved then just gaining this 8 lbs because not all of it was fat. The other factors were it was 5 days away from that time of the month for me.. and I have really been running and I know I have gained some muscle I also thought I was retaining some water but anyway .. WHO cared about all that I was 8 lbs up!! And to think.. this was 2 days after I ran in a 5k! I quickly planed out what I was going to do.. back to my 800 calories a day ( I am only allowed 1000 if I want to loose a lb a week as I only burn 1500) more running! And.. count count calories and watch everything I put in my mouth. I was shocked.. I had gone so far from counting my calories I did not realize how quickly they add up. It is SO easy to get more calories in then we burn and I did it. I do not want to be one of those people in someones conversation who gained their weight back. As of today I am down 3 lbs and I am happy about that.. but this is a reminder… never stop being accountable and loosing sight. Weigh yourself regularly so you know what’s going on with your body. Have a goal weight and a warning weight and stick to it. If you gain don’t completely freak out and walk away.. do something about it before the number is too much to confront.
One thing I would recommend to anyone who hasn’t done it is to get your metabolism checked so you KNOW how much you burn when you’re sitting on your butt all day and when you add exercise into it. Yes it is quite easy to gain the weight back just like everyone else.. but YOU can choose not to by being prepared before it happens.
So as of today I am 5 lb up from where I was 1.5 weeks ago.. but 3 lbs down from Sunday and even more determined to beat the fat and reach my goal. When you realize what it takes to just loose 1 lb of fat.. cutting out 3500 calories a week.. and you know just how hard it is to run 2 or 3 miles everyday and know that’s only burning 200 a day .. it can be hard but we all can do it! Its just numbers.. so after all this babbling I just want to encourage people who may have gained a bit to get back on track.. never loose sight!

April, thanks for posting this. I know exactly where you are coming from. Recently I found that I was falling back into some bad habits and was seeing a slight weight gain. I had crept up 10 pounds over the last 2 months. Yes, it was also that time of the month and I knew I was retaining fluid. I also had cut back on the diuretics that I was taking because my labs were showing I was a little dehydrated (a prescribed med). I freaked too but I quickly sent out an email to my support group asking for help...for an accountablity partner. I ended up with 2 and we daily send each other our food journal. We've been doing that for a week now and as of this morning I am down 6 of those 10 pounds. I'm back to the weight that I was 3 weeks ago at my 2 year postop checkup. I also made sure I increased my exercise. I had slacked off from my exercise after my plastic surgery.

You are right about what we need to do to keep ourselves in check. I weigh daily and now, once again write down what I eat, keeping track of the calories, fat and protein. Basicly its back to basics. I know my tool is still working but I have to make sure that I keep using it correctly.

Glad I'm not alone. I read some of the posts on here and am amazed that people can go from being slovenly pigs ( that ate all that stood still like myself) to fantastic marathon running body builders AND NOT LOOK BACK!!

I find every day a struggle and have to fight myself on every piece of food that enters my body. Went to see my dietician and was SHOCKED at just how far off track I have gone. I had forgotten everything she told me in the post op visit.

I know now how many kj I may take in and the bread..- don't start me on the bread. I thought a slice of toast with Marmite on was a good thing because of all the vitamins.. I'm barely allowed half a slice of toast a day!!!

I wish I had an accountability partner out there to assist me in this processssssss....

Please- if someone else is also looking for this- let me know...

I need help

My name is Celeste and I still will eat anything standing still.....

April thanks for the eye opener.

It is a constant fight, and daily reminder to stay on the "right line".

I keep track of all what I eat now since over 2 months, in an excel sheet. And keep track of my actual weight and weight lost on a graph: the slope is not as steep, and is flatening.... horror.

Thanks again for your theme, we have to stay streight, on the line, and if any deviations, either compensate with sport or and with stronger diet.....Actually not different than any of the "thin girls" who watch almost since birth (A little exageration) their weight.

Take care
