Is There An Average Post Surgery Weight loss
It's been 6 1/2 weeks since I had my gastric bypass surgery, and I've only lost 30 pounds. I lost 25 pounds in the first month and since then, I've hardly lost anything.
Does anyone know what the average weight loss amount should be per month?
I started out at 264 pounds and I'm 5'7". Six weeks later I weigh 33 pounds. I"m afraid I won't be losing enough.
Thanks.
Michelle

You sound like you're in the typical stall period that occurs around the sixth week post-op. You're body is adjusting. As most will tell you, take measurements, you'll see you're losing inches, even though the weight stays the same. It will kick up again shortly.

i cant tell you i've experienced more stalls than i ever thought I've only lost about 24 pounds and i'm 6 weeks PO as well. I'm getting discouraged seeing everyone else say they lost like 40 or more i'm sure hoping these stalls end soon!

I lost 15 lbs the first month, and 12 the second month.
It doesn't matter, trust me. It just doesn't matter. Just let your pouch work for you, follow your surgeon's instructions, drink a lot, take in lots of protein, rest, exercise, and you will be at the finish line.
Now it all seems so fast, but it was so painstaking as I was going through it. There are people who lose quickly, others who don't. I don't know where I fit in, but I am very happy that I lost 110 lbs in 9 months, even with a slow start. And I'm at goal now.
Keep the faith! Let it work for you!

don't worry...the first 6 months you have no choice but to lose.
Stop weighing your self..eat healthy good choices and focus on developing good habits and filling your time with life changes that will last your whole life!

At 4 weeks 4 days, I had lost 17lb. at 9 weeks 3 days, total of 25lb.
Slow and steady and like rainrain says - forget the weighing. It'll come off.

What a relief to see this post! I was getting worried that I wasn't maintaining my weight loss, just like mlhender! But I must be in that 6 week stall period as well... I've lost 3 pounds in almost 2 weeks! I hope it picks back up soon...

Lindsay, there is another consideration here...
You andI are among those that have/had the lesser amount to lose. Yes, I know it was huge to us, but here is the point -- the less you have to lose, the slower it will go at some point.
You will see people here who lost 100 lbs in 3 months, but they are peoplem, generally, who have a lot more to lose. I was thrilled with my 110 lbs weight loss over 9 months. It wasn't 3 months, but it was appropraite given the amount I had to lose.
And while this DOESN'T apply to you, many people told me it would take me 2 years to lose the weight, given my age. I don't think my age made any difference whatsoever!
You are doing fine - I promise!
