4 Days Post-Op
Hi, everybody.
I'm 4 days out, had an open with Dr Callery on Wed, came home Friday afternoon. I'm feeling pretty good, I quess. I'm not even sure what my questions are, so I'll just start with something. I tried to sleep with the c-pap again last night, but I woke up feeling short of breath and gasping, so I took it off. It felt like too much pressure. But today, I'm feeling a tightness/pain, from the very top of my incision, thru to my back, when I try to breathe deeply. I'm just wondering if I'm not walking enuf, or on the chair too much? I am trying to use the breathing thingy more. Or has anyone needed extra o2 at home for awhile?
And I feel all bloated. I have lost about 4 pounds since yesterday. But is the bloated feeling normal? Should I be trying to sip, sip, sip more? Walk, walk, walk more? Am I being too hard on myself, like I should be feeling better than this, walking more, etc? Or also, can I try the Gas-X yet?
I quess I'm just a little cranky. The hospital stay and the Doctors were great, except I had issues yesterday with the nurses. Anyway, that's all over, and I'm home. I'm sure it's fairly normal to feel these things, just thought I'd check.
Thanks for any input.

I am 3 weeks out. I had soreness when I breathed but I was not on a breathing apparatus of any kind. I just used the spirometer and after about a week the soreness in my lungs and diaphram subsided.
My throat was sore when it was cold. Later at the nutrition class they show the thing that is shoved down your throat when you are out cold that assists with the staple line. My throat was raw, that pain was worse than the pressure.
I had a lot of pressure in my mid section. But, it wasnt really pain. Maybe gasx that worked for me a few days out. I kept on the liquid pain medication for a few days after I was home. At week two I felt great. And, now I am almost normal learning what I can and cannot eat. So far only 2% milk has bothered me. I seem to have no problem with sugar

Thanks, Melanie.
it is nice to know how people felt afterward. I'm sure everyone is different. My throat was only sore and hoase at the hospital. I sounded pretty bad.
Hopefully the tightness in my chest will go away soon. I'll talk to Kelly on Monday.
I was reading some of the older posts, was I supposed to start the Raniditine right when I got home? Maybe that's why I'm feeling so bloated. But I'll also try the Gas-X, too. I was pretty crazy the couple of weeks before surgery, it was probably told to me and I forgot.
Thanks for the info, I'm already feeling better.

Hi Anne...
I am so glad that your surgery is done & you are safely home.
Because I chickened out I can't give you any feedback about your post-op symptoms but I want you to know that I care.
You are going to do great.
((((Hugs)))

Hi!!!
Hi, Lei
Thanks for your support and (((hugs))) and I hope you continue to hang around the site even if you haven't had surgery
Please don't feel like you have "chickened out". You definitely have not, this is a huge decision for everyone, and you have decided it is just not the right time. Sometimes I've been feeling, I've taken the "easy way out", even tho' I know I haven't. It was the scariest thing I have ever done!! But I have been thinking about this for years, and suddenly my 49th b-day hit. I just decided that it was too important to me to get healthy again before I hit 50. That's scary enuf without all the health issues I was having. And I want to get out of my little hermit hole and have fun again.
Anyway, I am feeling better today. I think the gas medications have really helped. I'll get out for a good walk with Cierra and enjoy these gorgeous days again!
Please stay on the site, your questions have been very helpful (especially to those who seem to forget everything they want to ask ).
((((big hugs))) right back at ya,

Anne,
You were smart to have WLS while your body is still relatively young. It will recover easily & you will avoid further damage from your MO.
It was not available when I was your age. I will be 67 in August. I have a lot of damage from MO. I was not heavy until the late 80's. I quit smoking & went through menopause at the same time. That was when I started to put on extra weight & it got out of control.
A couple of months ago, when WLS became available to me...I was not able to find people my age, who were considering it, or who had recently had the surgery. I was flying blind, while attempting to decide if the risks were worth the benefits at my age. I still don't know. I don't think anyone does yet.
My age may be greater but my spirit is eternally young.
If I were your age...I would have the surgery in a heart beat. I'm proud of you.
((((Hugs))))

Anne,
How are you doing today?
I felt really bloated too for about a week. I did start taking the rantidine right away, but never felt it necessary to take the gas-X. I hope it has helped you feel better. Let us know what Kelly says on Monday.

Watergirl,
Thanks so much for your concern. It is feeling better today, I also took the gas-x. Now I'm just wondering, I am drinking too much at a time?.......Should I slow it down? I'm not sure what feeling full really feels like now. But I'll let you know what Kelly says tomorrow. I see what you guys mean by the cream soups, you are soooo ready for something different.
Can I ask what else you guys ate (or drank) from the 5-10 day time? I'm already looking forward to mashed potatoes, steamed vegs, oatmeal!!!
